weird thing happened last night.
I havent driven the yukon sense friday. last night I went and started it. It started fine no issues good oil pressure. went to put it in gear and realized I left my wallet and work id badge in the house, ran inside quick when I came back out. the yukon was making a funny sound. sounded kinda like belt noise, blew it off as being cold and went on my way. 2 blocks down the road and it started rattling fairly loud under load and the oil pressure was rapidly bouncing from 20-60 psi the needle never stopped moving. I only work 5 miles away and I was kind running late so I continued to drive it. at the stop light about 3 minutes later the needle on the oil pressure gauge started to calm down and settled around 50 psi which is normal. from then on it has ran fine. started fine this morning and oil pressure is normal. oil level is normal. seems normal.
I was thinking that with it being colder out I may have just experienced my first real case of 5.3 piston slap and maybe the oil pressure is a bad sending unit that acts up cold.
does that sound about right or is it wishful thinking and I now have a bad oil pump?rides:
