So the cd player in my car is shot and I am taking the car to St. Louis this weekend. Does anybody have any suggestions for a stereo? I don't own an ipod but I do have music on my droid. I'm trying not to spend more than a couple hundred bucks between the cd player and getting it installed, since i don't have the tool needed to pop the radio's out of 94 Mustangs. Any suggestions?

get one with a usb input and just get small flash drives. If anything, your droid should be able to work as a usb drive also.Originally posted by punchSFC is a bag of stupid.Capitalization is the difference between helping your uncle Jack off a horse & helping your uncle jack off a horse.

alpine with ipod and usb input i have the same one in all my cars think its about 180 and it has the sub adj which is nice if you have subs i drilled a little hole in the center compartment and ran the i pod adp in their it works great. but really one of the best decks for price. and that tool you need to remove the stero is a metal coat hangar just stick one in each hole and it comes right out and you can buy the cord so it all just plugs in too really easy.

I agree with Fosters, although I have no idea if a Droid will work that way with a car stereo. The head units that accept USB and iPod lines are the only ones worth looking at these days. The tool to pull the stereo from your car should only cost a couple dollars at a place like Autozone. The more difficult task will be connecting the wiring harness. Doing the install yourself, or getting a friend to help you will let you spend more on a better head unit. It could be the difference between affording a DUAL or a Jenson compared to an Alpine. Plus you’ll know that no one simply twisted the wires together and wrapped them with electrical tape

ya if you have the mach you need a diffrent harness and dont switch the spekers otherwise youll be rewiring the whole stero thats what happen to me. but the alpine is one of my fav decks and they just sound really good i like it better then pineeor jvc and all others.

Alpine usually makes fine products; I always used to like the Kenwood products as well. Mr. Powderworks might be a good resource to use if you want to pay someone else to do the install. He will probably make sure not to create any shorts in your car.

Wish I could help with suggestions. I used to be of the school of thought that name brands have higher quality stuff. The last 2 stereos I put in my cars have been Kenwood and Valor. The Valor sounds better, and is 3x better than the Kenwood... at half the price. The old kenwood I had, in my previous truck, was awesome though... Only reason I bought the new one for the X was that I had the sirius receiver already... which I ended up never installing again.
You can get harnesses to use the factory amps, but IMO, it's only a matter of time before those go bad, and they're not exactly all that great either. I would rewire the entire car - running new speaker wire to all speakers. The sucky thing about that is that you'll need new speakers too, the ones in there now have no tweeters in them, the "tweeters" are separate, and they're not even tweeters. So you're looking at 2 pairs of coax speakers at least or 2 pairs of components at most... and wire. And an amp if you want it louder/clearer. Either way, it'll sound 10x better than the mach sound system... I've ripped like 4 of those out of cars so far... 35 lbs weight savings between that and a deck with 4 coax speakers.
