So my car decided it didnt want oil in it today...

I was on my way to school, when I noticed my car was smoking a lot. I rolled down the windows and there was that burning oil smell. I saw the oil pressure dropping and shut the car off and coasted into a parking lot. Popped the hood and there was oil all over the filter and around the oil pressure sending unit, and a nice trail behind the car. Also, one of the positive wires for my fans was pinched and was sparking and started the oil feed line to the blower on fire. Luckily I had enough breath to blow it out, it could have been very bad. Now the car sits in a parking lot which will cost me about $18 for the day.

At least I have some good friends, and their dads, to let me use a truck and trailer to pull the car back home. Better than getting it towed.

Now I have to get my other Rustang from leaking gas so I can drive that for a few days, or just ride the bike if the weather is nice like today.

Welp, gotta go start screwing around with the car.

    Later,
    Nick

That sucks Nick. I guess you gotta expect shit like that with a car that's modded as much as yours.

good luck with the fixin, hope nothin is seriously hurt.

        Good God!
I just have this picture of hopping out and poppin' the hood and freakin' tryin' to blow out a sparked flame...

        That's a scary feeling though...
A couple summer's ago when I drove my Turbo Grand Prix to work one morning headin' to Calhoun Square, I got off the freeway and was behind this bus. Well I could smell this raw gas smell :eek3: ...
and I was thinking to myself "damn I hope that's this bus that smells like that!" and I came to my turn and went downt the street as the bus went straight, and I could still smell it! I start to worry, get a couple blocks down and come to the ramp and notice smoke start to pour out the driver's hood vent

I freak and rushed to get into the ramp and park asap (no parking or anywhere else to pullover)... and I get in and shut 'er down and pull the hood handle and pop the trunk switch.
I hop out and pop the hood (just hopng there's no flame there that I'm about to feed oxygen to, but expecting just that)... and all white smoke just rolls out from under the hood... a gas line burst and raw fuel is spraying on the turbo and exhaust

I abandon ship! I start bailin' all my tools and stuff outta the trunk and car before she sets fire; I think. I head for cover as I expect it to start fire any second. Luckily... it didn't. There was nothing to spark it, and it cooled down. I ended up fixing that line in the ramp after work that night, before I could even go home, What a pain... but I was just glad it didn't start fire. Turns out, that same exact thing started other TGP's and STE TGP's on fire in the past.

Well, I got the car home without any more drama, but I havent looked at it yet.

I did fix my shitty winter beater so I can drive that a few days, if I have to.

I did get a BS parking ticket. When my mom picked me up, she showed me a parking lot that had motorcycle parking in it. We asked the attendent what the rate was and he said $2. I decided to ride the bike to school and parked there, but there was no attendent in the booth so I decided to park there and then just pay when I left. I got to the lot and found a parking ticket on the bike. Now I am going to fight it and I hope to get it dropped since the attendent was a moron. My mom was pissed too.

SVT- sounds like your car was at the edge of going byby. I'm glad mine was oil and not gas, otherwise it would have been adios to my baby.

          Nick

I know exactly when the line started giving way too.
I was on the freeway just shy of my exit and my air/fuel gauge started wiggin' out on me, and would go lean when I'd get on it, and back to to normal when I'd let off... just the opposite as normal :eek3: (dawning on me later due to lack of needed fuel).

Needless to say, I started carrying an extinquisher after that.

Sounds like the oil sender is leaking. Seen and heard of many senders leaking through the the center where the electrical connects.
A cheap, easy fix if you can get to it.

Not to make light of the situation, but this reminds me of when the intake manifold started on fire on the old man's 85 S10 Blazer. He used some kind of carb-cleaner that is off the market now (due to things like this, and worse), some 15 years later...My dad carried my baby sister like a football and told me to run like he//, that's the part I remember best.
The fire burned itself out before the MFD showed up. The funny thing is that the Blazer is still around, (not for long though, the old buck is being scrapped or sold or something, since Dad bought my old car when I bought the Mustang).

That was a totally different situation than yours, but I know what a car fire is like. IT SUX!

TR6- that was my first thought once I saw a spare one in my garage. I'll check that first. Maybe this was a sign that my car wanted an oil change, it has been about 2500miles.

Ponypower- kinda funny, at least the part about your sister as a football. My 85GT had an engine fire when my uncle owned it. I think it was a semi-common problem with the carbed 5.0's in 85. He saw smoke coming out from the hood, popped it and there was a fire right on top. He grabbed a blanket that he had in his car and was able to put it out, and thats how I got the car for free.

I found out what the problem was. The supply line to the blower somehow got a hole in it. Now I have to drive it without the blower for a few days, not gunna be fun.
