Broke right off at the edge of the weld
I would guess that the frame is too thin at that point to support the motor. Perhaps some additional gusseting as well as not relying on such a small area as the only stress point would be a better plan
OVERBUILT!!Dear Government, eventually the people with money will tell you to fuck off, and stop paying for those that don't work

In regards to process welding..... the machine may have been set at too high of voltage... too hot. It sometimes makes the pieces you are welding together brittle around the weld(slag develops a glass like appearance)... the weld is strong but then you have over heated the material's joints around the heat zone which will directly effect any tempering that the material may have had to begin with.Originally posted by Fernanernie View Post

And after looking at the photos... I am 100% sure that was the case... now they probably go back and have to inspect the other frames that came out that day to see if it will be a pattern. Assembly lines are awesome but its shit like this that makes you wonder if its worth building them so fast that you lose quality. I am sure that if this story gets any bigger than toyota will make him sign a gag order, they are liable and at least the guy is happy and got what he wanted.Last edited by YouNeverSawMeHere; 01-02-2010, 12:03 AM.

Those FJs are weird to drive. Because if the vertical front window and the length of the roof overhang in front of the driver, you cant see the stoplight across the street while waiting at an intersection. Really annoying and not terribly well researched.
