We had a lot of help and we are very fortunate for that. We made some mistakes (costly ones too ) and we learned a lot. My crew (friends and family) told me they wished I could have been on the starting line to see what happened when the scoreboard lit up. They said when the board lit up the starting line erupted with cheers and applause. I can't thank all of you enough for the support/help/friendship you've given us. You guys are awesome. Oh, and a special thanks to Troy Trump. I think my buddy Brett must have heard your little story about AVH and his 8 second run. Him and my dad and my sister came down in the golf cart to tow me back. I was disappointed. I didn't think it ran the number. He comes back and says, "this close man, you were this close". I asked 3 times, what did it run? What did it run!? @#%^$E$%^$ pos what did it run? That's when he handed me the timeslip. Now I know how Aaron felt.

Anyhow, our day started with a "bang". We left the 250hp tuneup in it pulling 16 degrees of timing. We got ready for our first pass. Warmed up the bottle etc, drove up to the lanes. I staged, let go of the brake, and before I could figure out what happened it blew the tires off, put it on the rev limiter, backfired, and shot flames out the cowl. I coasted to the side and hurried out of the car. I actually thought it was on fire from all the smoke. They pushed us off and we pulled it back to the pits to check out the carnage. It turns out, the Wilson spacer with the burst discs served it's purpose. It blew the burst discs out. Good thing it didn't hurt anything, bad thing because I don't have any more burst discs. I thought we were done for the day but then decided to try to find a spacer. I went to the RSN KING camp and his pal had a spacer for us to borrow. (This is the same guy that borrowed us a couple fittings at Brainerd. Thanks Matt and your camp for helping us out with a funnel and spacer) We put it on, I drove the car, and everything was good to go.

We couldn't get a test pass in before eliminations so we got ready for eliminations. Who did we draw on the ladder? RSN KING Matt and the chevelle that ran an 8.84. Great, I think, oh well, we will give it our all and see what happens. I didn't want to blow the tires off again so I staged, I put it on the trans-brake at 3/4 throttle so the nitrous wasn't on, I let go of the button, waited a split second, matted it, I had to pedal it once, and I kept looking in the mirror I didn't know where he was, I pulled the chute at the traps and then I saw him just behind me. I knew I got him. I got my slip, it was a 9.04 to his 9.2? I believe? (are you kidding me?no 8 for us?) and we hauled butt back to the pits for our second round. We changed plugs, heated the bottle, all the normal stuff, and barely made it for second round.

We had fast mark and I knew we were a little faster than him. I did the same staging procedure and launch as I did against Matt but I had to pedal it off the line a bit more, then just before half track the car got out of shape and drifted toward the center. I had to let off, and i wanted to immediately stab the throttle, but I waited. I got the car straightened out, I stomped it again, the car was sacheying(sp?) side to side a little but it was pulling hard. We started pulling on Mark but we didn't have enough. We went a 9.57 to his 9.43? I think. At this point we thought we'd make one more hit to try to get the 8. I made a change to the tuneup. We pulled an additional 6 degrees of timing for the first 1 second of the run, which we left in it the rest of the day, to try to help it hook. We got the car ready, we watched the lanes, thought we picked the correct one, and staged the car. I was leery to let go of the button at full throttle but I thought we'd have to to get it done. I staged, matted the gas, let go of the button, and it spun hard again. I let off, got back on it and it hooked. It actually pulled the tires off the ground again which suprised the crap out of me. I thought we had it. They came down to get me (we pull the plugs after every pass). They gave me the bad news. 9.205 at 155.19. Son of a ..... at this point I was done. There's no way we are going to get it done on this track today. My crew and One Bad Dakota talked about it and they talked me into trying one last time. We hurried up and got everything ready. I tightened up the rear shocks one click and we added all the fuel we had which was 7 gallons to try to add weight and get it over the rear tires. We had the bottle heater and an electric blanket on the bottle but could only get 900 psi out of it. That means when I purge it's going to drop under 900. Oh well, no guts no glory . Well, they made the call they were closing the lanes. We hauled ass down there and got in line. I checked the tires, got buckled in, and drove up to the head of staging. I looked in the mirror, I was going to be the last run of the day. I saw many familiar faces on the starting line but I just concentrated on what I had to do. I picked the lane I wanted, tried to do a healthy burnout, and I staged the car. I gave it 3/4 throttle, the lights came on, I let go of the brake, waited until I thought the tires were up on it and stabbed the throttle. I thought oh crap, this isn't going to end well. I didn't hit the throttle until the front end was almost down. I thought it was going to unload the tires but I kept it hammered and it hooked and booked. It felt good. Not fast, just a clean, a to b run. I knew the mph was going to be up there but I didn't think the ET would. I stopped the car, threw the chute in the hatch and waited for the jokers to come get me. I didn't think we'd done it but I was hopeful. Then they played their dirty little trick on me and I cursed a few times. The car went an 8.896 at 156.03 with only a 1.47 short time. It's gone a 1.38 and that was with a converter that was 1000 rpm tighter. I think there's more in this thing.

What a way to end the season. We got our first 10 second, our first 9 second, and our first 8 second pass all in one, long, season. Thanks to ds5dot for all your help, a couple of late night thrashes, and the great combination that people said wouldn't get it done. We accomplished our goal of getting it done on a .028 jet, pulling a ton of timing, on a slick track. Also, thanks to wayne for letting us use his fuel flow tool this season. That was a huge help. Thanks to Richard at Mean Street Performance for all your help this season. It seemed whenever we needed some help, you were always available. Thanks to my dad, my brother Tony, my brother Chris, and my friends Brett and Dan for all the hard/long hours in the garage and at the track helping us reach our goal. Mostly, I want to thank my wife for making this a reality for me. She has sacrified more than I ever could have asked for. Thanks to everyone that supported us, and thanks to ford_fixer for bringing your car down and running with us and also letting us use your funnel as well (I think you're right, it's time for a fuel cell ).

Congrats to One Bad Dakota, RSN KING Matt, Chad and Billy Boy, and Tire Nick for getting their new personal bests as well! I wish I could have seen more people make their runs, we were just too busy. Congrats guys and anyone else that ran a new personal best yesterday! Also, congrats to Mike Sterling for winning Pro Street and I believe, even though we didn't get to watch it, that Fast Mark won Real Street? Congrats Fast Mark and Mean Street Performance on the win.

Thanks again everybody. Chad and Bill, way to go getting that car into the 9's. I know that's what you guys wanted to do.

As for the tires, if I thought the car even had a chance of spinning I would have put some slicks on it. The car had never spun the tires before this weekend...but we did make one *minor* change. We sent the converter back and it is 1000 rpm looser than it was. I guess that's what they call an "education".
