    mini 14 question

im looking at picking up a used synth/blued mini-14 in the next week. the cheapest ones ive seen are in the $550-600 range. is that a decent price? where is a good place to look?

That is not a good used price. You can pick up a new one for that if you shop around. Check out Bill's, cabela's, and if you're willing to drive a little Scheel's in St Cloud. Check out GunStop in minnetonka as well, they are a great place.

Used should be in the 4-500 range IMO

the only one gunstop had was $550. a lot of people cream themselves over that place but i really dont think most of their prices are that good.

Hmm that still seems a bit high to me. Perhaps I'm out of touch with Mini-14 prices I guess look for what they are going for new and see how that compares to used. If $550 is at least $100 lest than new and the gun is in very good shape I wouldn't hesitate to pay $550 I guess. I was under the impression you could get new for the $600 range though.

Try and strike a deal with Gunstop?

You could try J&S in Lakeville, I've had some OK deals with them. I haggled $25 off the purchase of my used PM9 from them. Worth a shot. Most gunshops will haggle a little bit.

I live near St. Cloud, but only recently heard about Scheels. Is the place any good? Usually when I shop around I find the Cabelas is cheapest.

Scheels has some nice stores. I shop between Scheels, Gander Mtn, and Cabelas. They are all relatively competitive.

meh. i'll probably just end up buying the one from gunstop. i'd rather not waste $50+ in gas driving around trying to save $25

They're not bad if you don't mind not being able to hit anything you want and constant jamming. My old roommate had one and it was the biggest POS ever. Sold it within 3 months.

maybe he got a dud? people never shut up about 10/22s being reliable. mine was the biggest pile of fuck i've ever owned. fucking thing jammed every 3 or 4 rounds, even with the factory mag.

what else should i consider in the $550 or less range? i want a semi auto either in .223 or 7.62x39 and no SKS's fuck those.

You still haven't said what you want to do with this rifle? That would help people to be able to make suggestions.

im now tossing around the idea of a saiga in .223. looks like you can pick one up for about $400 and there are folder/pistol grip stocks for them for about $60 they're said to group about 1" at 100y? sounds like a good candidate. anyone know what kind of accuracy can be expected from one in 7.62x39?

I agree. They can't hit the side of an air port hanger.
