I was going to buy a rhino or somethings similar for colorado. Problem is that it is normally pretty cold and they can only haul 2 people. Also I wont be using it in extreme off roading, mostly trails and dirt. so my next bright idea was to buy a cherokee, not a grand or loredo. I think it would make a great vehicle for my needs and the prices can not be beat. So I am look for a jeep and some input. What are some of the things to watch out for and look for? I know many of you know these trucks well. I will be driving it to colorado and possibly back.so if anyone has one here is my criteria MUST be a good runner, 4.0L only. the rare 5 speed is a bonus. at this point i am thinking 1998 and newer(may change for the right one) A/C must work, tires must be in good shape etc. lifts are ok as long as it drives on the highway good. I want 135k miles or under. I have been looking and it seems like there are some good deals to be had between $4k and $5.5k. Advice from the guys who know these truck is appreciated. And anyone who can show me a link to a good buy. Thanks

The fuck are you talking about? He burned a cherokee to the ground that he had "bought" from graydon, but had not paid for.
I was talking to graydon the morning before it burned to the ground and he was complaining that nate was already driving it and hadn't paid up yet.

Do you not remember a thread on here where he was driving some fucking 4Runner from one of his friends for a few days before actually paying for it? This was in St. Cloud, and it burned to the fucking ground. Fire Department had to come out and everything. Tell me you remember that you fucking sucker ass bitch.Originally posted by SFC View PostThe fuck are you talking about? Stallion has burned two vehicles to the ground. The first was a toyota pickup, not a 4runner. The second was a cherokee he "bought" from stormwalker.

You are using this for extreme off roading? Why are you looking for a Cherokee, you should be looking at a Wrangler instead. Regardless, if you are mainly off roading, auto > 5 speed, though that's just my opinion.
If you insist, I guess the first things I would do is go with a long arm lift kit from Rubicon Express or something:
You'll have to do a slip yoke eliminator on the tcase and use a Cherokee front driveshaft, have it relengthened at any various shop. As far as the rear, you'll probably want to swap in a Ford 8.8, and put a nice locker in there, like a Detriot:
Rusty's Off-Road is a leader in the 4X4 industry with our innovative line of Jeep specific products. Our in-house manufacturing and R & D keeps our products on the cutting edge. With our in house manufacturing we are able to control cost and sell retail at wholesale cost without sacrificing quality.
The Dana 30 front axle should be fine, whether you want to lock it or not is up to you, some people don't like the feel of a locked front axle, but it definitely helps for some of the more extreme stuff.
Pick some nice 33" tires, do some fender trimming with a sawzall, and throw some armor (skids, rocker guards) under the thing. Don't forget a steering box brace.
Boy I hope you do some research before you try "extreme" off roading. I'd think it's probably best to just start with a 3" lift and some 31" tires with unlocked axles, that way you can't get yourself into too much trouble at first.
