Cell phone question Sprint/Blackberry

I have (had!) an HTC Touch until my 18 month old threw it in a glass of milk last night! I bought this last October, got a new one 2 months ago that I had to pay a $100 deductible for (water damage as well), and now this happens. I would rather have a Blackberry but can't upgrade until October 1st.

I activated another Sprint beater phone for now. My options are

1) Pay the $100 deductible and get another Touch (don't want!)
2) Run my beater phone for the next 6 weeks and get a new Blackberry (don't want to wait either, and the new one would probably cost more than $100).
3) Can I buy a used Blackberry and activate it under my account? The price of a used one is about the same as my deductible for a phone I don't want so I'd rather do that. This would be my preferred option. Is there anything to watch out for when buying a used phone?

Buy used one on eBay. Do NOT buy from someone selling a lot of phones.

I had a phone crap out on me and Sprint wanted to charge me 100$ to honor the insurance. I dropped insurance and told them I was dropping them unless I got my blackberry. I got what I wanted.

warranty out your phone, trade it to someone with a new(er) blackberry.

Yep. exactly what mark said. Look for someone that's not selling other phones.. I buy all my phones that way now. haven't had a contract in years.

The insurance contract I had said I'd get a refurb phone. I wished I had bypassed the insurance and opted for a second Curve for $75 instead. After ten months the insurance would have covered it or I could have sold the second one.

I was looking at buying a replacement earlier, and the way I would have done it is to meet the seller at the provider and have them switch it over and then hand over the money. (They won't switch the phone over if it's reported stolen.)

I had a different provider BTW. The Curve I had was kind of flaky, it lost data, reset the time and locked up as much as 3 times a day. Get used to pulling the battery often.

Make sure you sell the kid before you buy a new phone. You wouldn't want a repeated incident.
