The government trys to control way too many "personal choice" things already. Evidently they didn't learn in the 20s that prohibition doesn't work. I'm a 35 year smoker trying to quit now. I've quit everything from alchohol to narcotics and this has been by far the most difficult for me to quit.
Wow.... There are some really good comments here. Very little for me to say .
Nice .
There exists plenty of evidence that contradicts the claimed effects of secondhand smoke. Ever notice how every "study" that claims extreme harm from secondhand smoke states the only solution is to ban it from public places? Why not install air purifiers or offer the business owner some options to meet the needs of his customers? Why not look at re-engineering the cigarettes? Why not come up with a logical solution that does not strip away liberties? These activist-funded studies are nothing but tools for the anti-tabacco lobby - which in itself is ridiculous.
So simple and so perfect - a damn shame people in general fail to keep it paramount in their minds when analyzing issues such as this.
How exactly do you people that say "well, since I don't smoke it doesn't really bother me... (etc.)" look yourselves in the fricken mirror? How can you stand so idly by while our liberties are stripped away? Just because you don't utilize the given liberty means it is less important? That mentality, particularily as a soldier sworn to defend EVERYONE and EVERY liberty this nation contains, could not be any more disgusting to me.
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!....WE AGREE ON SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Fathead, you know they're going to be there smoking. If you decide to go there too YOU are making the choice. When are you going to take responsibility for what is yours?
Not smoking is not misguided. Thinking you have a right to force your chosen behavior on other equally free citizens certainly is. Nice distortion of context there. You have a bright future ahead of you in the propaganda ministry.
Is this propaganda ministry hiring? Because I need a better job.
Seriously, you just labeled me the complete opposite of how I actually am. I'm sorry if I offended you, combination of a bad day plus people getting worked up over "the man" made me post an irresponsible comment. People can continue doing whatever they want because quite frankly I just don't care anymore.
