Some drunk plowed into the back of my Grand Cherokee 2 nights ago, the adjuster was out today for the estimate, he wrote the estimate up to use a used hatch, used bumper, and a used tail light, and the time to refinish and paint them. Can they do this? I feel I am entitled to new parts, thats what I pay for the insurance for. I called him, and asked him what it was about, he told me it was industry standard on a 2001 to do that, I said Bull shiat! If I want new parts he told me I would pay the difference out of pocket. Does this sound right? I want to say, the jeep was almost pristine before hand...

I just think if it was perfect before, it should be after, not repaired junkyard parts. Let me re-phrase that, I think thats how the insurance should pay out, then, it should be my desicion what to put back on it... Should I worry that the agent listed a much higher mileage on my report than the jeep actually has (by about 20k). Assuming this happens because they didnt have a key, and they just guessed.

I totally think you should get a good repair done.
But I am starting to rethink all the shit insurance companies pay out. Like storm damage on house. I had a 40k job done a few years ago for hail and the windows had been shot for years already. The siding and roof were also in bad shape. It seams expensive for the companies to replace all that old stuff with new just because it got dented.

This!Originally posted by LTDpower View PostTake it to a body shop of your choice, get an estimate from them, talk to insurance company. They can't tell you where to go, it's called steering and it's illegal. You're also entitled to a rental.
Also tell the insurance crook to go pound sandDear Government, eventually the people with money will tell you to fuck off, and stop paying for those that don't work

Read your policy. That will tell you what they can and cannot do.Originally posted by 96zjlimited View PostSome drunk plowed into the back of my Grand Cherokee 2 nights ago, the adjuster was out today for the estimate, he wrote the estimate up to use a used hatch, used bumper, and a used tail light, and the time to refinish and paint them. The parts on the vehicle weren't new so why should they pay for new parts? Doesn't really matter, just depends on the body shop you use.Originally posted by o4RedFireGT View Posti have seen ins. companies write up 2007 and 2008 vehicles with used or aftermarket parts....it really just depends on the company, some do that and assume the customer wont check into it and figure anything other then new is being used...1998 Buick Lesabre Custom

What insurance company do you use? Every time I've made a claim the insurance company says take it in where ever you want to go and we'll pay for it, they even come tow the car there for me.Originally posted by 96zjlimited View PostI assume in the mean time I should do nothing with the check he left me, because that would be more or less accepting his estimate? It doesn't really matter I guess, that is just a curiousity question.1998 Buick Lesabre Custom

Correct. Cashing the check would default to you accepting the terms of the settlement. Now I'm not a lawyer, maybe your should PM LegalEagleOriginally posted by 96zjlimited View PostI assume in the mean time I should do nothing with the check he left me, because that would be more or less accepting his estimate?
