Is this any good? I know it's prolly not up to YOUR standards, but I wanna know if it's practical to get. Child memories and all that stuff is what I need it for.

You get what you pay for sir. if by good, you mean can you watch home movies it makes, yes, but thats about it.
a HD cam would be worlds better but again, you will pay a lot more.

I use the video setting on my Canon Camera. They are not the highest quality, but not terrible. It's enough for me.Comment

I've used one of those to make the interweb pron. Worked wonderful as long as it wasn't a extremly low light situation. Also with the DVD, it depends on what you plan on using it for and how much vibration.
