    Evo as a DD?

Anyone do this? Can I get a reviewz?

I used to have an SRT-4 and I hated it as a DD. The thing was a total ass-fuck in snow, and it was too damned loud for my old 20 minute commute. The Evo seems to have a few things going for it that the SRT-4 did not:

    1) It has AWD. Depending on how they tuned it, there's a chance it could still not be all that useful when the white shit hits the ground.

    2) It has a muffler. This could prevent having to listen to the obnoxious shit I had to deal with on a day-to-day business with the SRT-4.

It seems the EVO still sits pretty low for a DD/Winter-driver, is probably an absolute nightmare to insure, and for the ~25k buy in costs for a clean one that I could even think about trusting not to be beat to hell, I could really afford a lot of mods for my tired but true '98 Regal. I could also buy a fairly nice 330 for that cost and I'm betting the maintenance between the EVO and the 330 is about the same.

I had one for a dd for 9 months. Didnt really care for it, I had a 30 min commute. The ride is like a lumber wagon running over rail road ties. I like cruise control-the evo didnt have it. Also grew tired of that obloxious wing in the back, Mileage wasnt too good cause all I wanted to do is hear the turbo spool. Plus I grew tired of all the ricers trying to get me to race.

Cool car but I didnt like driving it everyday

Subie not even in the running? I know those things will kick ass in the snow.

Back seat of the Legacy is too small for my taste (read: I gotta throw a car seat back there). The Krauts know how to make a back seat that's useful and the EVOs seemed reasonable. This thread is more of a satisfying of curiosity more than it is a "I'm shopping - what should I buy" thread.

Go look at a 2008 WRX hatchback, nice looking little cars and decent room for around that 25k. 2009 got a nice hp bump but would think there would be much better deals on '08s..... I was seriously considering one of those or a Mazdaspeed3 but there's zero market for trucks.....

2007 impreza would do better in snow, and be a way better DD in my opinion. Much cheaper, but a few years old now...

It would be nice if they had a Rally package for the Evo, you know, like what the car was originally made for...

I think most people will tell you to do a WRX. I had one and I loved it, it rode very comfortably also.

I do appreciate that people are telling me to buy a Legacy or Impreza (the WRX) it is probably a viable alternative for most people looking to just get into a high-HP 4-cylinder AWD car. But it doesn't really answer my question of how the EVO performs as a daily driver -- the root of the thread.

                        EVO as DD FTL!!!

Its a sports car with sport handling characteristics, so not the most comfortable ride, good for having fun with though.

You will find for what you are looking for that probabnly most people wil tell you to get a subie for DD purposes and good roide quality.

In the end its your decision if you wanna take other peoples advice, or just buy what you want then regret it later.

Again, the attention span. I was more curious about it than anything else. I think I was pretty clear when I said, "I'm not looking to buy one, I'm looking to satisfy my curiosity." Southern's post is spot on what I was looking to find out. Given the input I will probably drop it from my list of potential DD's but that doesn't mean I'm going to add the Subaru's either. I don't like them, I haven't for a while, and I don't think that opinion is going to change any time soon.

I liked my Evo as a DD. I thought the ride was very tolerable....much better than a fox with lowering springs, as an example. I did miss having cruise control, but you can always add aftermarket cruise. I got decent MPG because I didn't beat on it all that much. I never did drive it in the snow...I wish I had.

Actually I wish I still had that car. Oh well.

I would at least suggest test driving one.

You wanna know how it performs as a daily driver?

Like shit. Every customer I've spoken with who's owned one loves the fact that its fast and fun. They also hate how bumpy it is to ride in, how it feels like a race car. How much road noise comes through the floor boards.

My experience: Each Evo I've seen come through Walser has been sold for the $25k mark and they've all been beat on. I've taken in 2 of them myself and I know first hand that my customers beat on them. Even still they only had 41k miles and 34k(2005 and 2006). When a person pulls a CarFax or runs the VIN on Evo's they often see that they were owned by 4+ people over the turn of 3 years.
