    Serious computer speed issue

In the last week, especially friday to now, my comp has been really slow and doing really stupid things. It takes forever to navigate pages and have a page pop up, I had a hard time downloading my pictures from the dyno to the hard drive and other things like that. I really dont know what to do, it is making the computer pretty hard to work with. it is literally at least 6x slower than normal in most situations.

At this point, I have done a system recovery to a week ago, defraged, and all other basic maintenence I know of. It hasent helped a bit. I am getting pretty worried about it.

I really dont want to point fingers, but this did start happening after a cretian someone thinking he's funny with a popup download that seemed to piss off a lot af people on the board, got downloaded onto my computer.

I am at my wits end, can someone help me out?

    I disagree.

Delete content of TEMP directory, Delete contents of TEMP INTERNET directory. Set Security to HIGH for the zone "Internet" TUrn off Java & active X components. This should take care of about 90% of your popup issues and give back some of your CPU processor speed.

Also check which ones are running, look them up, and kill those that you don't need.

Also signs of Malware/spyware. Adaware 6.0 download would not hurt.

In Internet Explorer, find Tools at the top, left click and you should see Options at the bottom. Left click on Options and you should be in the General tab.

            Now.

            1) Delete Files.
            2) Delete offline Files.
            3) Delete Cookies.
            4) Delete History.

If your running a firewall like ZoneAlarm, Clean temp files.

If your not running a firewall like ZoneAlarm and email virus checker like McAfee or Norton, you should consider it.

Also, search for Ad-aware in www.google.com and install the free version. One of the best for cleaning data miner cookies.

Zone Alarm is free for the home user.
Find cutting-edge security solutions for your devices, including next-gen antivirus, firewall, anti-ransomware, anti-phishing, safe browsing, & more.

            So is Ad-Aware 6.0.

Thanks for the replies. Ray, I will try what you suggested probably tonight and I will let you know how it works out.

In the meantime, if anyone else has some ideas, feel free to chime in, I sure could use them.

Also don't forget to update anti-virus software regularly. Also run Windoze update while you're at it.

I had a problem with popups about a week ago also. You might want to check out spysweeper.

Don, Im not much of computer guy anymore so take this for what its worth.. How valuable is the info on your drive? Ive used the RESTORE function and it has helped chase out a few demons. You can restore your drive to its exact info prior to dumbass's pop up post. Thats all the info youll lose. If no change than you have the option to reverse things to where they were.

If all else fails declare WWIII on the drive and reinstall everything. You will be amazed at how much faster everything moves. I wish I knew of something to stop others from monitoring/adwaring my computer that actually works worth a damn

That would have no bearing as to why all of a sudden it started slowing down.
