get the new tabs and visit the court house to see about getting the ticket dropped or reduced. Problem is that tickets now carry a $75 state surcharge.

You are correct sir. I went inside and bought the tabs online. It says todays date but no time on it.

Anyway yes we have cops in Watertown (Carver County Sheriff) and they have always been good about stuff out here and friendly, but this is a completely retarded waste of time and money. I'll be visiting the court house tomorrow and hopefully they are reasonable people there, but then again they are government.

So did you get a ticker for public nuisance, or expired tabs??

If it is expired tabs I think you might be able to challenge it as the law states the vehicle must be driven or parked on a highway (roadway) with expired registration in order for it to be a violation. If it is in your yard that is not a public roadway and it appears the law does not apply.

169.79 VEHICLE REGISTRATION; DISPLAYING LICENSE PLATES.
Subdivision 1. Registration required. No person shall operate, drive, or park a motor vehicle on any highway unless the vehicle is registered in accordance with the laws of this state and has the number plates or permit confirming that valid registration or operating authority has
been obtained, except as provided in sections 168.10 and 168.12, subdivision 2f, as assigned to it by the commissioner of public safety, conspicuously displayed thereon in a manner that the view of any plate or permit is not obstructed. A plate issued under section 168.27 or a permit issued under chapter 168 may be displayed on a vehicle in conjunction with expired registration whether or not it displays the license plate to which the last registration was issued.

It contradicts itself. The ticket is for "expired tabs", but the ordinance is 204 which is "abandoned vehicle"

your city may have an ordinance. I know in my city a vehicle without a plate or without good registration on property = junk/abandoned vehicle. It's bullshit.

Ahhh. I suppose that would be their basis for considering it as abandoned....the fact the tabs were expired and it was in the yard.

No warnings. Yeah, they have it covered well. Basically bend-over because here comes the government. I'm still going to appeal to them and see if they will let it go.

ha ha ha!! i got tagged for that a couple years ago too!! some bs is what it is.. they even said that a winter car with current tabs that doesnt move is considered a nuisance, and can be ticketed for sitting in the driveway!! so i guess youre suppose to keep your beater in the garage?!?!
