Position Information
POSITION INFORMATION:
Process and print both film and digital photos producing pictures for police investigations including crime scenes, fire scenes, accident scenes, evidence photos, etc.

******** MAY OCCASIONALLY HAVE TO WORK EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS. *******
Job Duties
(Including but not limited to the following
- Operate a Noritsu one-hour film and paper processor, run control strips and mix chemicals.
- Sort, cut, collate and package finished prints.
- Make enlargements for court.
- Retrieve film from the Property and Evidence Unit.
- Notify investigators and attorneys when prints are ready to be picked-up.
- Enter print jobs into an Excel data base.
- Back up digital images on a computer.
- Make copies of digital CDs.
- Order supplies for Photo Lab and film for Crime Lab Unit.
- Take injury photos of victims/suspects.
- Take photos at Mpls. Police events.
- Enter Crime Lab Statistics into database.
- Check cameras for proper operation, resetting tripping devices, and reloading film as necessary.
- Retrieve film, develop and print film after a robbery has occurred.
- Install specialized alarm systems in businesses.
- Perform routine maintenance and service on equipment.
- Keep records of job activities.
Working Conditions
Exposure to photo processing chemicals, cleaners, and solvents.
Required Education
Up to 18 months of specialized training in photographic work.
Required Experience
One (1) year of experience performing similar duties.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered.
Licenses/Certificates
Must have and maintain a valid Drivers License.
Other Requirements
Screening Questions:
Sixteen (16) Screening Questions - are attached to job announcement (or must be obtain from our Receptionist). These screening questions must be responded to and those responses must be submitted with your official City application. Without them, your application will be deemed as incomplete.
Background Check
An intensive Police Department background check will be conducted. Candidates not passing the background check will not be further considered for the position.
After a conditional job offer, candidate may be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Other Qualifications
- Good knowledge of both film and digital photography including processing and printing.
- Knowledge of color theory and of the operation of cameras, processing, and printing equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with Adobe Photoshop.
- Knowledge of chain of custody.
- Ability to clean equipment and make minor repairs.
- Ability to multi task.
- Works well under pressure.
Selection Process
May consist of a rating of education/experience, a review of the screening questions responses and/or an oral exam (100%).
