Yeah, all my vehicles are SUVs (Cherokees) besides the Mustang. But I bought them all when they were fully depreciated for cheap, and have gotten more than my money's worth out of them. Example:
Wife's 93 Cherokee Country:
Purchased Sept 2004 135k miles
$1600
Present July 2008 201k miles
mkt value: $800 - $1100*?
We've had it for 47 months if I figured that correctly.
Breaking that down to a "monthly car payment**":
Sell now for $900: $14.89/month
Burn truck to ground right now, laugh, don't bother turning it in for scrap (zero value): $34.04/month
So, seeing if I would sell it now for 900 bucks my "car payment" would have been less than 15 dollars a month over the time I've owned it, you can see why I balk at these 200 dollar car payments I hear about. Sheesh, you people are getting ripped off.
*I figure $900 mkt price is fair for a high mileage good working cherokee with working A/C
**This does not include the cost of repairs/maintenance. This figure is quite low, due to the truck never breaking down and $10 DIY oil changes
