    vehicle shipping/transporting

    has anyone ever done this?

i'm trying to get a vehicle shipped to me, but it is taking them a long time to get a truck assigned to pick it up. they say 1-10 days is the typical pickup time after your first available date, but it's been 2.5 weeks now. i call them and they don't really have an answer for me.

has anyone had good success with other companies?

Was this a third party shipper out of the country? Did you cash a large money order and send the remaining balance to Lord Essex the 3rd, who just happens to have a *****ian address?

it is third party, from all the quotes i got, that's how most of them seem to work.

they don't actually take my deposit money until the truck picks up my vehicle, and then the remaining is due to the trucker when he delivers it to me.

Call FedEx. I have a friend who has used them to ship some pretty expensive cars twice and they did a great job. Door to door shipping at reasonable rates.

thats about how it works, i have some contacts that ill send u
          who did you use?

the wait for pickup is usually about 5 days unless u can have it transported to a POT.
( point of orgin terminal) such as a major city/truck stop or easy accessable area, there have been many times where i have had to drive thorugh a back neck residental area with a 53" foot trailer to pickup some dumb fucks stupid shit.. little details like that also make a nice difference in the terms of rates and service,

u can also try using a broker service they contract with the truckers to find them loads when they are stuck in a dry area ( alot of freight coming in, nothing going out ) and also to fill up there trucks when they have a partial load , it may be on the back of a flatbed semi with a couple tractors, but u also will be rest assured that the car will make it from florida to msp in 36 hours

I love road trips. Buy me a plain ticket on price line, and I can drive it back for you.

I used DAS (dependable auto shippers) and while they transported the car pretty quickly...i paid for an enclosed transport but the car came to me filthy and covered in oil and some additional scratches that werent on there when it left.....

              I say just drive it.

I've heard some bad things about DAS.

I used a broker I found on the intrawebs for a car that was not drivable. It sat for a month until I upped the ante for an additional $100, and it was picked up the next day. Sometimes it's just timing and logistics, sometimes the offer is too low for independents to bite at it.

I recently bought a drivable car from the Denver area, and it was $200 to fly down there, $100 for one nights hotel, and $100 gas to drive it home.

i've thought about flying out and driving it back, but it's in north carolina. it would cost as much if not more to fly out and pay for gas and hotel. plus it would take an entire weekend of my time to do it.

i did up it $100 the other day to try to help get it picked up.

xcsboost, what contacts are these you have?
