SCOTT WEILAND: This Is VELVET REVOLVER's 'Last Tour' - Mar. 21, 2008

According to several fan accounts and online media reports, VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland stunned fans at last night's (Thursday, March 20) VR concert in Glasgow, Scotland, UK by dropping a huge hint the band's time may be up.

He told the sell-out crowd: "You're watching something special... the last tour by VELVET REVOLVER."

A fan who attended last night's show wrote on the band's forum, "Once [Scott announced from the stage that this was VR's last tour], Slash [guitar], Duff [McKagan, bass], Matt [Sorum, drums] and Dave [Kushner, guitar] all looked at each other. They sang 'Fall to Pieces', then Scott goes over to the side of the stage and argues with the sound guy. After a couple of songs, he threw his mic down and walked off. After a long wait, Duff came out with the band and sang the start of 'It's So Easy'. Scott shows up about half way through, sang really half-assed then gone again..."

In an online posting from earlier today, VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum stated about the Glasgow concert, "So last night was interesting. Had a little band turmoil on stage, as you probably all could tell.

"Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes you just don't get along. I guess there has been more turmoil lately, I guess, with the cancellations and all. It has been frustrating, I am not going to lie.

"My career and life in rock 'n' roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some. Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. With all the travelling and different beds. Personally, I love this shit and sometimes can’t believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living.

"Everybody could see who was unhappy last night, but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people!!!! In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."

Weiland, who recently spent time in rehab at an undisclosed location, has struggled with substance abuse problems for more than a decade, although was reportedly clean for nearly four years until a few months ago. Questions about his condition flared in January when he missed a VELVET REVOLVER performance at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, claiming transportation problems.

Weiland will reunite with his STONE TEMPLE PILOTS bandmates for the first time this spring/summer for a number of shows, including an appearance at the Rock on the Range festival, to be held May 17-18 at Columbus, Ohio's Columbus Crew Stadium.

seems weiland is starting to pull the typical axl moves I hope they don't split up before I get a chance to see them (or before they're able to make a record in par with the older gnr stuff)

Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don't attempt to stand in a man's shoes when you haven't walked his path. Secondly, 'keeping rock 'n' roll alive?' I've made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though; this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I've been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I've ingested into my system. I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run and that was the 'make-up' Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve... Volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won't say why; we'll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves.

However, you deserve to hear VELVET REVOLVER playing; not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound. God forbid; could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It's a shame; we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of anyone. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows.

Eh, whatever. I was never that impressed with the band and Scott Weiland doesn't do shit for me either, much like the other members of VR aside from Slash. I liked the idea, but thought the band could've been a lot better. Much like Chinese Democracy (is that even out yet?), this pipe dream was a major let down.

gnr at least had axl, who i think is a better singer and all around frontman (on his good days) than weiland.

but I thought that velvet revolver could have a lot better music if they would have focused more on slash's contributions to songwriting and just go off of what he would come up with, but it almost seems that whatever slash is putting into most of the songs is being redone or overlooked, especially when compared to his work on Snakepit (either album). I did think that his "style" was most obvious on Fall to Pieces, even though it was more of a ballad. But with most of the VR songs, you could not hear it for the first time and be able to definitively pick out slash as the guitarist, because their music sounded too generic to all of the other "mainstream light rock" out there

Plus, I thought that it would only get better after Contraband (which I actually liked most of the album) after hearing the "its the first record" excuse, but it just went downhill. I think if VR breaks up now they will always kind of be seen as somewhat of a failure because of all of this.

I see VR as a failure anyways, just for the fact that nothing they did really impressed me aside from Slither, which was their first single off their first CD. Nothing they did jumped out and really said, "Hey, you should listen to VR because they do _____ so well compared to S.T.P. and G N' R."

and I think thats another reason why they will always be looked down upon if they do split, its that they will always inevitably be compared with Guns N' Roses and Stone Temple Pilots, and will never be able to live up to the standards that the gnr and stp fans have put on the those bands that they put on vr.

Oh, and Chinese Democracy isn't out yet, but is done and has been turned in by axl. Now, to try and gain back what they can out of the 13+ million spent on the album, the record company is trying to sell to the highest bidder to make their money back. So, at least its no longer in axl's hands. Who knows, maybe we'll see it within the decade according to the rants of Sebastian Bach its supposed to be pretty good.
