Although personally I'd prefer a revolver for home defense.
Why is that? higher power? safer?
I think I am going to take a trip to Bill's Gun range sometime next week when I'm on Christmas vacation and try out a few guns. I really like the classic 1911 .45ACP, but I also like the idea of a lightweight composite 9mm that holds 15 rounds to have as a carry weapon should I ever get around to taking the PTC test. I figure I should get the permit before next november when hillary takes away all of our guns and the world collapses into inself.

Fuck. Good point. I need to stop procrastinating and get mine as well.

1911's are expensive, 9mm round are too fast and in the event you have to use it the bullets can go through your target, ricochet and hit someone else.
I prefer a revolver because it will always work. If a semi auto pistol jams you're fucked, if you have a misfire with a revolver you simply pull the trigger again.

I carry a Taurus 38 snub.
^
I used to carry a full size 45 hi-cap. It is very heavy, bulky and almost a G. Not to mention rarely it does jam and is single action.
I also bought a taurus .38 snub last year. has a really nice finish and was under $300.
If I were a professional with a gun it would be a H&K.
For a citizen carry gun an ultralight snub is bomb. Otherwise I like some of the really tiny 9mm double actions.
I have not gone so far as to have a pistol for home protection yet. I metal pipe under my bed and some Chuck Norris style karate kicking is all I realy on. But the revolver makes sence. I think it is a little more intimidating to a invader to actualy see the bullets in the gun pointed at him.
