My story is semi related...

I goto school at dunwoody, and wow. The school continues to downright shun smokers. I'm not a smoker but I think they could accomodate people who like to smoke. Right now smokers have to walk like 50 feet away into the middle of the parking lot to smoke. I feel bad for them in a mn winter.

I guess what I'm saying is it the property owners right. And the state should stay out of it. But for the health of a business you think a owner would want to accomodate both worlds.

On the other hand smokers will keep smoking come hell or high water so I guess it's ok to just shove them off.... jk.

That's going to smell a whole hell of alot worse. Lets see someone kick me out of a fucking restraunt for that, I'll have a lawyer on their ass within 30 seconds of leaving the door.

Fact of the matter is in a society you're going to have to live with things about people that you dont like. And in a close society like a city you're going to be smelling everyones shit. If you dont like it fucking move. Otherwise learn to love the smell of crap because i can gaurenfuckingtee you that the second i cant smoke is the second i start downing Brocolli like its going out of style. And im going to stand right next to people like you and let the thunder roll.

People then bitch about the "health of it" Well you pieces of crap wtf are you doing at a bar swilling down beer driving home drunk after just mouthing down a plate of chicken wings, fries and 99% saturated fat dipping sauce? You certainly arent going to get health food at a bar, and if you do chances are the fucking bar is already non smoking. You think smoking is un-healthy?

Do smokers maniacally kidnap people and take them to restraunts so they can inhale second hand smoke and die in about 40 years? It's an assumed risk, you're going to go to a restraunt that allows smoking and then complain about it. There are now, and have always been non smoking restraunts, most of them cater to the family venue. Go there! your kids will live healthy lifes! They wont come home smelling like a filthy stripper!!! Everyone is happy.

I choose to smoke, a restraunt chooses to allow smokers. I go to that restraunt, i already have to drive out of my way to find a smoking bar, why shouldn't you have to make the same sacrifice? If i cant go to a smoking bar to drink i'd probably just stay home, what next are you going to want to ban smoking in peoples garages because because there is a cool party there you want to go to? In fact, that's already happening and not to renters but to property owners!

I'm allergic to cats dont go to a restraunt if you have cat hair on you as it might effect me some what. Or ill break out in hives and die if a bee stings me so dont grow flowers next to my house. Bright lights scare me and i might run into traffic so please turn off all head lights. Your house is ugly it's making me depressed so paint it a different color.

So long as there are cigarettes there will be smokers. I'm sure after smoking is taken care of there will only be something else to go after. I'll bet that next something is alcohol or fatty foods. Hell thats already happening too!!

Its a backwards philosophy and its entirely self desructive. Look what has already happened in hennipen county, they banned smoking alot of people liked those bars/restraunts. What happened? Smokers went some place else they made a choice. Non smokers stopped coming because it wasnt as exciting of a club anymore and the ones who still came were not enough to keep them in buiseness.

We're not going to your house and your restraunts and smoking. But, people are coming to our restraunts (Yes smokers own restraunts) and our homes and telling us not to. I'm sure if a non smoker disliked smoking enough he would ban smoking in his restraunt. Its the property owners right to declare what happens on his property. Why would you want to take that away from them? If the non-smoker likes money more than his health then fine, he made his choice he allows smoking because he needs cash. Who are you or anyone else for that matter to say that he shouldnt have that option.

I’m going to open a “SMOKING ONLY” bar/restaurant. It will have a sign on the front of the building that says “You must be smoking a cigarette when you enter the building or access will be denied” at the bottom of the sign it will also say “this is my policy to protect the rights of non smokers. I certainly wouldn’t want a non smoker complaining about the smell of smoke or having to breath second hand smoke while chugging down ultra healthy alcoholic beverages!!” I will have “bouncers” at the front door to make sure everyone is smoking (just like carding people to check their age…. only different) I will hire the biggest name bands to play concerts, I will hire the biggest name comedians to perform their stand-up comedy acts, it WILL be THE place to be!!!! Non smokers can go elsewhere to enjoy themselves in a smoke fee environment.

Then, when the state goes smoke free I will sue their asses off for completely ruining my business by removing 100% of my patrons simply because a certain percentage of citizens didn’t approve of the “legal activates” of my customers.

But before my bar/restaurant gets pushed out of business, I’m sure I’ll have people claiming my policies are discriminatory against non smokers because they would also like to enjoy the biggest, badest bar in town. Well,…… TO BAD!!!! There are plenty of smoke free bars in the metro area, go there!!

I would also like to have a state wide ban on perfume and cologne because I’m allergic to the smell…… It makes me sick and nauseous!! Every time I smell strong perfume I puke my brains out and I’ve had to see the doctor several times about this problem. As a result, everyone’s health insurance premiums have gone through the roof. It would be much easier and cheaper to just make perfume illegal in public buildings!!! I cant stand it when I come home form a bar and have to smell that shit on my clothes. I cant believe that someone would actually make ME smell that shit….. Oh, the nerve of them!!! I don’t care if perfume is “legal”, that doesn’t matter….. I want it gone from public building because I don’t like it!!

Of course everything I’ve just said is completely stupid but so is banning cigarettes!!! As 68GTO has already stated….. smoking and cigarettes are LEGAL!!! Take all of the other opinions and facts about smoking and put them aside for one minute… smoking is a legal act just like drinking a beer is legal, if they want to ban it from a public building (or anywhere else for that matter) they should make it completely illegal to smoke then there wouldn’t be the “private property owner rights” argument. Then non smokers might say…. “Yeah, they should make it illegal” OK, but then alcohol is next because of the health concerns and insurance premiums going sky high because of alcohol related health issues. And after alcohol it will be guns being made illegal (and the right to bear arms is our second amendment right) because “they can hurt people” After guns it will be “high performance cars” because they are “unnecessary” and people who drive those cars cause traffic accidents in which hundreds of people are seriously injured/killed every year resulting in ridiculously high insurance rates. The list could go one forever… when would it stop??? This was just a list of examples of what could happen. You might think I’m nuts for suggesting guns or alcohol or high performance cars would ever be made illegal but just remember…. If you would’ve told a smoker in 1960 that cigarettes will be banned from public buildings in 2007 they would’ve looked at you like you had 2 heads….. Think about it!!! Once you let them take away one of our rights they’ll do it again and again. Non smokers might be in support of it this time but next time it might be a different story when it affects them and the shoe is on the other foot!!

That would be Illegal.. Smoking is not. Now, if you parked your car on the train tracks in front of a run away train car full of blank keys going to a key smith and your car got keyed to oblivion. I could use the same argument about loud exhaust, over weight people eating too much and causing my health insurance to climb, people who burp in public, people who talk on the cell phone and drive. Putting out a cigarette while fueling is common sense its also illegal to smoke while pumping.
