Setting up truck for brake controller

So my 98 silverado 1500 only has the 4 prong trailer lights deal and I need to pull a trailer with electric brakes, thus the 7 point plug. My buddy has an extra brake controller i'm going to buy off him.

Can someone give me some advice on getting all this crap set up. Looks like i'm going to need to run a few more wires back there..

I'd suggest keeping an eye on the Nitrous install thread. Pretty much the same idea... Or you could just read the instructions
Dear Government, eventually the people with money will tell you to fuck off, and stop paying for those that don't work

Check to make sure the truck isn't already wired for electric trailer brakes before you start running additional wires to the back.

Most newer trucks are already wired for electric trailer brakes. (early 90's and newer)

Most trucks are prewired. look under the dash, the plug/wires may allready be there. You may have to buy the adapter at the rear of the truck.

Not sure on the chebbies but on Ford if they do not have the 7 wire plug they do not have the brake control wires up front.

Chevy didnt start wiring for a brake controler in their pickups until 99 when they came out with the silverado body style. Any of the older (98 body style and older) pickups had to have the brake control wires added.
