    '05 duramax overheating.

A good friend of mine picked up an 05 2500 duramax crew cab this summer. Friday while driving down to the area we were going to hunt the fuggin thing started getting hot (212 + degrees on level 3 of edge programmer) and on the factory tune it was still around 202. He had to take it easy on the speeds just to keep it at 202. We were pulling a 6x16 vnose trailer for our decoys.

He told me the LLY dmax's were known for overheating, but this seems pretty shitty. That rig should have no problem pulling that trailer comfortably. And I thought it was going to be the shit for pulling the trailer around all fall..

Oh well, should be interesting to see how my 98 1/2 ton chevy fairs soon..

So is level 3 on the Edge a tow tune?

If you want to know about LLY's and overheating, go here.

Most programmers raise the EGT temps a lot and the exhaust isn't big enough to get rid of the heat.

202 doesn't sound like overheating to me. Did it go into limp mode? It will if it's overheating.

Isn't that average temp for those, 200-210?

Was he using tow mode to lock up the converter? If not, that alone will raise the temps.

I haven't had a problem towing my car around in 100 degree heat using tow mode with the windows up and the AC on.

If your running a programmer, you should upgrade the exhaust to at least 4 inch.

their is the problem with the lly's overheating, but that is considered 234+ degrees.

if he is that worried about it, tell him to go to coolmyduramax.com

i have towed 11k with my 05 lly in mountains that were over 6% grades and it was 80 degrees + and had no problems. however, the cooling system in these lly's run hotter because they kept damn near the same cooling system as the lb7's. lly's were the first duramax with a vvt turbo, so it runs a hell of a lot hotter egt's that the non-vvt lb7.

trust me, if he has an overheater, it would be running the fan constantly. our trucks like to run right under 210 degrees. this is the only problem with the 04.5-06 lly trucks.

and rayk is right. if he wants it to run cooler, get a 4 inch exhaust. i just put mine on with a bullydog powerpup and am lovin it. runs cooler too btw.
