So today at work im setting down two broken STHL carb saws in the mechanic's shop. I set them down intentionally close to this guys tool box, because thats where we put our broken tools, (this guy is new to the shop)
Now, I dont bump his box but i come close. Its maybe 3ft high and 4ft wide snap on box. Yes i know they can be pricey and i know everyone worships their tools. This guys box wasnt in any kind of bragging position though, and the guy was really just pissed off that he actualy had to do some work today. He's been working for the city for about 20 years as a lube tech and just a couple months ago he got promoted by atrition to a mechanic. He really doesnt know squat though.
Anyhow he starts off on this tirade, blah blah blah my tool box blah blah effin idiot... Then he tells me "I SPENT 6000$ on that box!!!?" so yeah we go back and forth for about 3 minutes
ect...
But seriously wtf is with people these days. I mean i could understand if this was an upper end shop and there was strict tool etiquet. Or even if this box was brand new. But 6000$??!!! people have to be nuts.
Anyhow after screaming from the top of my lungs at the guy i finally had enough and said yeah i could pay 6000$ for a pair of tits and that doesnt make me a stripper.
Why do people think their tools are what makes them a mechanic? My grandfather used to work on cars/planes with an old set of craftsman tools and those were passed on to my dad who has added to and passed on to me. Seriously though if someone scratched my tool box i wouldnt be in an uproar about it, Mine is a snap on my dad gave it to me because he didnt have space for anymore tools at work. he paid maybe 2500$ for it. Its small dinky and full of craftsman tools.. I dunno, i respect other people's property but i've never seen someone go ape shit ballistic over what amounts to absolutely nothing. We've been putting our broken stuff there for the 8 years i've worked there and im sure years and years before.
I guess if i really cared i would say "hey, watch it around the tool boxes i dont wanna fix any scratches" but seriously though, you put your tools there you're asking for it. I wouldnt toss my box out into 35W and expect people not to hit it just because its a snap on, and thats basically the amount of traffic that goes through that shop.
I dunno ugh...

true story

tell him if he's that worried about it, then maybe he should move his box slightly further away from that area. i mean did someone designate that as his specific little work area? LOL
