hmm what are the stipulations for giving blood. i know if you have recently had i believe tattoos or piercings. anybody know how soon after you can give blood?

I heard on the radio any emerg. room can take blood and will get it there but it would be better to know first hand Iam sure they wouldnt mind if you asked at a time like this

#1 reason is that the red cross sells the blood to hospitals for about 800$ a unit. While thats all fine and dandy, I understand they need to collect the costs back the CEO for the red cross is making close to 700,000$ a year.

It's supposed to be a non profit charity, but with a salary like that someone is making a freakin profit.

Soo until the "ceo" makes a real wage that everyone else has to live with im going to pass on donating or until they start paying me like 300$ to donate blood. If someone i know needs a bit of blood ill let them vampire me dry. Thought i doubt many people need O- blood.

You can prove that the blood is sold for $800/pint? Also, In case you don't know, the Red Cross is involved in more then just blood 'selling' The Red Cross also houses displaced victims, feeds/clothes victims, provides services to rescue workers, assists in rescue aid, and acts as a communication channel for information. Not to mention there are numerous operating expenses involved even if there isn't one single tragedy (advertising, vehicle procurement/maintainance, 'employee' training, etc..) All of this money is supposed to come from where? Just in donations? Umm, no.
Considering that it's one of the biggest Not-for-Profit organizations in the country, their books are pretty much open to public view. If you don't like the Red Cross, donate elsewhere (Memorial Blood Centers, or HCMC for example)

Again, wrong. O- is definitely needed since it's considered the universal type. It will work with most everybody that needs it. That's why blood banks request that anybody that can donate, to do so.

I could really care less if you donate or not, but at least know some of the facts.

If you have had a tattoo within the last year from a tattoo shop in Minnesota then you can not give blood. I know this because in the last five years I haven't been able to give blood due to having gotten a tattoo within the last year. I really should donate blood seeing as I am O-

Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities. This requirement is related to concerns about hepatitis. Learn more about hepatitis and blood donation.

Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile needles and ink that is not reused. So i was wrong on my estimate i apologize they only charge hospitals from 150-250$ but they do operate at a profit from it.

I didnt state i wouldnt donate to the red crosses "SPECIFIC" relief funds, if i were to donate it would be to those becuase Ms. Marsha Evans doesnt make a penny off of them. 700,000$ can pay the salaries of 10 nurses full time year round. Which i think would be alot more help than 90% of the top wage earners in the red cross. These people arent voulenteering their time they're profiteering off of catastrophe and disaster. While the rank and file at the red cross gets "voulenteer" salaries and measly contributions these people are raking in 6 figure incomes.

They're a non-profit oranization only because they lose any profits they would make to paying outrageous salaries to cold hearted disaster pirates. They could stretch their donation dollars a good chunk more if they didnt give that kind of money to these undeserving immoral disgusting ass holes.

I'd "voulenteer" for the red cross for the rest of my life if they paid me 700,000$ a year. The united way, another charity their CEO makes about 1/2 that. While the salvation army's CEO makes 150,000$ or so a year. Dont believe look it up in forbes magazine. 13,000$ of that money he is actually paid the rest is for "living expenses", which taking into account all the BS the guy has to put up with on a daily bacsis I could understand the salary of 150,000$.

Good idea maybe next time memorial blood center comes by my work i think i will donate. Wish the senate would pass a bill banning profiting from non-profit organizations. Or restricting the salaries of executives or something.

Remember that story not long ago? The guy was operating a NPO for veterans... Except it was only a NPO because his salary was 95% of the donations? That kind of shit bugs me...
