I spent some time putting together a online order for summit and wanted to get one of MSD's lazer tachs. I couldn't find it online so I thought I'll call the order in and ask for the tach. Seems Summit is not going to carry MSD anymore. MSD wants to set the price their products sell for so all their vendors have same price. I don't blame either summit or MSD, I just won't be getting any MSD I guess. I haven't been too crazy about MSD lately anyways.

All the big manufacturers are starting to crack down on the guys on ebay selling product below cost or barely above cost, it's called MAP pricing. Bassically there are people selling out of there basements or whatever for dirt cheap, some are legit and some are not. And yes Barry Grant told Jegs to f off last year because they would'nt go alone with thier pricing guidlines and now MSD is doing the same it seems. I say good for the local guy very good indeed.
One way of looking at it is Walmart strongarms companies to sell to them cheaper and gets away with it in most cases, and summit and jegs are trying to do the same thing and the companies are saying fuck you to them. Gotta love when a walmart/jegs tries to tell companies what they will buy at and the companies say no thanks we will sell our product other places.Buying muscle/sports cars/regular cars/trucks, send me info, I pay cash or credit card if that makes you feel better!

LOL So because MSD sticks up for their rights to sell there product the way they want instead of letting jegs/summit strongarm them you will not use there product? Come on man what are you gonna use jaccobs?Originally posted by SteveR View PostI spent some time putting together a online order for summit and wanted to get one of MSD's lazer tachs. Why not buy local? What part numbers do you need, I'll give you a price for them with shipping.

Just buy from dirty. Thats what I do. I would rather support some one local. Think if the local speed parts stores shut down. What are you going to do on saturday when you need something right now for your car so you can drive it that night.Last edited by Iroc-Z; 05-09-2007, 11:08 PM.Originally posted by xjfishwe mustang guys are camerowned

MAP pricing is borderline in violation of the Sherman act. Mfgs trying to enforce it run a huge legal risk, and many just feel it's easier to pull the line. Most won't pull the line unless they are really good at selling direct to consumer. In the internet age, relying on Summit and Jegs is no longer very attractive.
I sell to Jegs, Summit and Amazon.com. None of them have ever strong-armed me on pricing. They afford the discounts to consumers mostly through efficiency. Most mfgs have set published wholesale prices, and to vary them also exposes the supplier to a lawsuit, which happened in the book industry. I can't speak for all mfgs of course.
Summit and Jegs and Amazon are just a different business model that's more efficient for discounting. I have a little direct experience with Wal-Mart and Sam's, and they do strong arm their suppliers. Most national chains do.

I'm not upset with MSD and their policy, just surprised by it. I would do business with MAS/TNT if I was local, only thing local here is O'reillys. Does MAS have their products in stock, or do you drop ship? When I do get down to the cities it's usually going to a fricken disney on ice or some bs like that.Originally posted by CAMSS30 View PostLOL So because MSD sticks up for their rights to sell there product the way they want instead of letting jegs/summit strongarm them you will not use there product?
