Have a good road trip story, let's hear it!

    Here's mine.

I went to pick up my GN last year in Topeka KS. AKA shithole of the midwest.
Hopped in my buddy's 97 F350 diesel about 7pm and headed down. Made it to the shittiest part of KC about 12am. OMG what a dump. Stayed at a 30$ a night motel with plexiglass windows and right next to a freeway! All night was ddd dddd ddddddddd. You get the idea. Wake up at 8am, with about 2 hours of sleep. Head to Topeka. Get lost, call owner of car to get back on direction. Pulling up and seeing your car that you've been looking for 5 years for. Awsome! Drive the car for 5 minutes, then on to the trailer. Head back to MN, through KC's fucked up road construction and detours. Get through Missery, sorry mean't Missouri. Fight 40 - 50 mph headline winds through IA, while passing big rigs with a car on a trailer is not fun. Get back home around 2pm the next day. Catch up on some sleep, and then go crusing for a couple of hours.

I went on a road trip to NY and back. Truck got all the way to NY, and on the trip back home, the same thing happened. In New Jersey we lost the bottom bolt of the caliper, it rubbed against the rim and blew the tire out. OF course it was Sunday evening and nothing was open so we decided to walk to a lowes store to find tools. Found nothing except a crescent wrench that was cheap as hell and didnt work for shit. So we took the top bolt out and put it in the bottom hole, changed to the spare tire and drove the car using mostly the e-brake for about 600 miles overnight until we found a ford dealer (after 2 dealerships didnt) with the bolt in stock and fixed it in the ford parking lot with borrowed tools from one of the techs. Then I went and brushed my teeth in their bathroom at the dealership.

I think overall it delayed us 6 hours...

Went to a grocery store got in line behind some woman unloading her groceries. Zoned out on her unloading her stuff from a hard day's work. She noticed me staring and gave me a quick smile and a glance. I had to act. I pointed to her stuff on the conveyor belt, and said, huh, looks like you're single. Completely dumbfounded, she said, that's crazy! How did you know I was single just by looking at the food I purchsed. I said, because. You're fucking ugly. Then I stepped back and got into another line, chuckling all the way there. It's always a pleasure knowing that you destroyed someones day.

Has nothing to do with a road trip, but was an experience I'll never forget.

Edit, and I should add, this shitbag was going to use foodstamps and had a shitload of steaks and all sorts of junkfood bullshit in her cart. Was it called for? Absolutely not. Was it funny? To me it was. Haha, I am an evil person.

i have bad luck on i39 going through wisconsin. both times i was on my way to connecticut to see family, the first time was in my ranger...i worked a 10 hour shift and drove til about 5 am then switched with my mom at a rest area, i just about fall asleep then bam! a deer jumped out of one of the ditches that divide the highway and my ranger hits it dead center. my mom is like shit shit shit shit fuck fuck fuck fuck and pulls over, i didnt know what was going on it sounded like a tire blew out...i get out and look at the front and my billet grill was gone, it was spread out down the highway, i went back and picked it up cuz i didnt want anybody to hit it (there was no traffic at all) and i find the deer on the side of the road. i'm makin jokes about vennicen (spelling?) and my mom is all pissed and looked like she was gonna cry (i have never seen or heard of my mom crying in the 20 years i've known her) and i'm makin jokes about how we should bring it home but then i dont have a truck to bring it back...it was such bad luck i thought it was funny...heres a pic of the truck

the radiator was completely broke, the fan snapped off the shaft that connected it to the water pump, my intake was fucked (i had a twin filter set up on it) the battery tray was pushed back and the bracket was snapped, it wasnt drivable. about an hour later a cop shows up and we get a tow truck, i get it towed to the first exit into a truck stop in janesville and ask them if i can park it there til i make arrangments to pick it up. a week goes by and that weekend i was going to go get it, i call the place to make sure its still there and they said it was gone, i'm like wtf?, i call janesville pd and they said they didnt impound it, i call the place back and asked if they towed it and they didnt, apparently someone made it drivable and stole it. i reported it stolen, the guy was pulled over driving it when the plates got ran through as stolen. he's in jail and i'm out a truck and like $1000 in supra turbo parts i had in there for a friend of mine in ct and all of my cd's and my stereo. i bought the truck for $1500 and i couldve went back and got it out of impound but it wasnt worth it to me. after that i bought my mustang.

the other trip was in the beginning of februrary in my celica, my moms bday is jan 26 my brothers is feb 2 mines feb 10 and my dads is feb 26, i was gonna go out there and surprise them on super bowl sunday (theres always a hell of a party there for the superbowl) i switch drivers with my roomate cuz again i just got done working and drove for a few hours and then he wanted to drive. i let him drive, we get a couple hours into it and on i39 again, about an hour out of janesville. all of a sudden the car shuts off and he's like dude whats wrong with your car? i told him try to start it back up in, didnt work, we're rolling at about 60 mph and i have him pop the clutch in 5th to start it, well it worked but it was ticking like a mother fucker (yes i topped off the oil before i left work) we pull over and i pop the hood, there was no smoke but the exhaust manifold was glowing bright orange. we let it cool and i call my mom cuz i thought it was funny...she didnt know i was on my way only my brother knew about it, so i'm on the phone with my mom and we start the car back up cuz it cooled down and all i hear is tick tick tick tick bang! it fuckin threw a rod, my mom was like that doesnt sound good did you just throw a rod? and i was just like yeeeepppppp and started to laugh. i got a little pissed at this one cuz it was -11 degrees out and i'm on the side of the road with no heat. i'm in the backseat under a blanket with a friend of mine and a cop shows up and calls a tow truck, well while we're waiting for a tow he decides to ask for everyones id, i lost my wallet about a week prior to this and had no id on me, my friend that was in the back with me also had no id, that pissed the cop off. he came back with a couple of forms we filled out and the tow truck comes while he's running our names, we get in the tow truck and we're waiting for the cop to let the tow truck driver bring us to a hotel. he comes to the truck and asks my friend with no id to get out, she gets arrested, she was reported as a runaway by her mom that kicked her out (she was 3 months from being 18 and stayed with me for a week then found a place with a friend to stay) she gets arrested in wisconsin. me and my 2 roomates that were with us go get a hotel and figure out what we're gonna do. the next day i decide to put the celica up on craigslist for sale because i didnt have a way to bring it back to mn, a guy comes to look at it and buys it the same day i posted it. i call my mom and she offers to drive from connecticut with my brother to pick us up and bring us either home to mn or to ct for a few days, i call my boss at work and tell him what happend and get an extra 3 days off from work and go to ct. party there, come back here, and continue on with what we normally do, well my friend that got arrested calls me, her mom had to drive from mn to wi to pick her up and was pissed about it and kicks her out again, not that she was ever invited back, i bring her her shit she left in my trunk and havent talked to her since cuz we couldve all got fucked with a kidnapping charge if her mom claimed we took her against her will, but she explained to the cop what was going on, either way i now stay away from 17 year olds lol.

i miss the celica and the ranger, the celica was fun, it was lowered 3 inches and handled like it was on rails, slightly modified with a jspec 3sfe swap and some bolt ons. i miss the ranger more though, it was a 2.9 5 speed, with straight pipes and sounded bad ass with the intake i had on it, it just sounded pissed off when you would stomp on the throttle. all in all i'm out 2 vehicles and somewhere in the area of 4 grand because of i39...next time i'll take 35e down through iowa.

              horrible summary.

              should say.

Got stuck. broke down, assraped, etc then got hit by a car on i39, made it home. Something along those lines.

Well ive done the cross country thing over 10 times, ughhh.

                      The worst...

When I moved back to MN from CA and I owned two cars...hmmm well I had to drive my truck back with all my stuff and had HORRIBLE weather the whole 2000+ mile trip, but I went non stop, for 45 hours, with small cat naps every 500 miles or so, like one hour or w/e in my truck, reaaal comfy, anyway it took so long because I went thru over 200 miles of snow storms and 600 some miles of rain and fog, so I get home to mn and 5 days later fly one way back to calif to drive my mustang home, loaded with stuff. that time my sis came to keep me company and we stopped for one night half way, luckly we did not see any snow storms.

So 4100 miles or so in 2 trips inside of a week.

Why didn't you just ship your vehicles, or at least 1 of them?

1000 or so to ship I belive.

One way ticket was a gift actually to my sister and I to visit family in ca, but it was only 130 for the ticket and I spent 170 on gas for each and motel was like 30 so it was much cheaper to drive, belive me, I did not want to do the drive that soon again

Did a road trip to washington last year, family owns a motel in long beach and was debating on moving out there..

Anyhow teamed up with this semi truck that was haulin ass, matched my cruise control perfectly to his about 10ft off his bumper and got 45mpg from N Dakota all the way to idaho... Then he turned off
