I bought two torque wrench cases, an 11mm socket, a 3/8 extension, and a 1/4 extension from sears.com because I'm too lazy to go to the store. Now I wouldn't consider any of these items particularly fragile, but they shipped them to me in a 4'x2'x1' box full of packing peanuts. It must of cost them $20(well probably not, but it still seems pretty rediculous).

better than not enough, I wonce ordered some shocks for my truck and they came taped together in the factory boxes an f'ed up. I was pissed, and they wouldent do any thing about it. cant remember what company it was, but i didnt order from them again

You're probably right, but when you receive a package that could contain two sets of cylinder heads you expect it to weigh more then half a pound.
