    Wireless problem

My linksys broadband router might have a problem. Didn't change any settings. Only shutdown the router and cable modem. Now after turning them back on, only the cabled PC's can get to the network.

The notebooks find and connect to the network, but are stuck on aquiring network address. Sounds like the modem is not assigning an address and responding to the notebooks.

Notebook message is "Acquiring Network Address".

    Any thoughts?

easiest *fix* for you will be to power off the modem and router and all computers. Wait 5 minutes. Plug the modem in first, wait 2 minutes, plug the router in, wait 2 more minutes, then start turning computers on one at a time.

Right click on the two blinking computers in the lower corner where it gave you the message "acquiring network address" and scroll up to "repair". That should fix it.

          its already attempting to connect.
The repair might kick start it into working, but im wondering if the router is set to not broadcast by default and it needs to be turned on...

All linksys broadcast by default. He would've had to turn it off.

My linksys didnt give a shit. I had to hit "repair" or it wouldnt work. My new router hasn't done it once. Shitty linksys routers

This router has worked fine for 6-8 months. I run it secured and no broadcast. Usually no issues.

It connects, but doesn't get the automatic address.

I'll try disconnecting for 15 minutes and startem back up.

Also, make sure you aren't accidentally connecting to a neighbors wireless network. If you left the name "linksys" it may very well be that you're getting a *VERY* weak signal from a neighbors wireless, which would explain not getting an IP. If you know how, I would strongly suggest changing your AP's name to something unique. IE:

I changed the name when I set it up. So it's not linksys anymore. It's the only network showing on the network list.

oh, and the quick and dirty that you don't care about is the mac table for the dhcp server on your router was probably fubar.

:stupida: heheheh, I love when people try to over diagnose a problem and totally forget about PC101.
