I'd think that there is a loophole that you can place a vin on it call it the "insert name here" car from "SOme COmpany" like a 1 off type of thing, slap a vin on and go. How do they do kit cobras? DO they come with vins? Are the vins created by a manufacturer? all questions I've thought about but never persued. Body in whites were more readily available for 99-04's weren't they? I remember hearing a lot about them a few years back.
Kit cars have VINs that are obtained from your DMV.
We recieved our BIW in Oct 04. You had to apply for them and the word I got from a contact in Ford is that they had about 3 times as many apps as available bodies. Only the first few came with facias(F&R) and most went out without. If a car has any paint on it, it is probably not a BIW. This same person also told me that the BIW program was a result of a pre-production run of bodies at the plant to make sure that everything was operating correctly. The bodies made for Multimatic never had any seam sealer or sound deadening on them. Cost wise building a BIW is probably more than converting a street car, depending on how much of the car you intend to reuse. BUT, it is much nicer to work on

You cant just slap any old vin on it and go.
Obviously you can't vin transfer like when a car is stolen but you can get one from the dmv, I beleive that is part of my, could you do it question. Yes, you can go to the dmv and get a vin for a kit car.

I'd be unstoppable if it weren't for law enforcement and physics.

Ford would have a big problem w/this, as w/the old body in white there were people that tried to title them.
I got a 00 from roushes 1 mill square' building in 01 and a 05 biw in 04. U sign waivers that state u will not try and title the vehicles. The was a guy that wrecked 1 on the street somewhere in detriot and wasn't a good thing. They were very easy to get back in the day and there were alot of blems. Roush must of had 15 when i was there and converts too. Total performance is where i picked up my 05 and John Vermeersh has some bad ass shit. Boss shit and cammers.

I had contemplated buying one too but the fact that your not supposed to title them turned me off, although the chick I talked to at the DMV said it could be done.
