    Server/Network Admin Help Needed

I need someone to help with selection and installation of a server, software and anything else that I may need. I'm not computer illiterate and I could probably figure it out but I would like it done right. If anyone is interested and wants to make some extra $ let me know and we can talk.

Are we talking a PPP server ?

Or like a Home network? Being a little more specific with what you want to do would help If its something like a home network im sure one of these E junkies would be more than happy to talk you through it on the phone. But for a PPP type server that would require stuff above my head so i dunno

I'm available as well. Let me know what you're looking at, I'd be happy to give some input as well, regardless of who helps you with final install.

I will tell you from the PM that you sent me that it will be cheaper to use linux, but I am not a linux guy. I am a Microsoft person so if you want to go that route then I will be able to help otherwise one of these linux people would be a better choice.

Microsoft will cost more then linux just to let you know.

Chris, i'm a sys admin with you-name-it experience. We should talk. I can help you figure out exactly what you need. I'd be happy to help you decide on a server solution.

Going to bdubs tonight or to the TCS hockey game at Blaine?

You may as well stick with M$. I am a full time linux admin, but if you don't have the experience, don't bother.

If he doesn't know windows SERVER it's not going to be any easier. It's far easier for someone who knows *nix* to come in, set it up, and have it *just work* for the next 5 years. Windows... he's one patch away from everything being broke and having to pay someone to come in to fix it all. Granted, it CAN happen to a *nix system as well, but with something like CentOS or Solaris, I've NEVER had it happen.

Um, no server un maintained will survive. I suggested he stay with M$ if he plans to put his hands in it. If he's just going to pay someone else constantly to maintain his server, sure, go with Linux. But if he wants to pay someone to install it, and he plans to "muck with it" on his own, stay with M$.

It sounds like all he needs is a private internal server. If he wants remote home access, setup a vpn. But I would still suggest M$ if he plans to maintain it in some way.
