Senate Committee says Global Warmering = Hype

So basically, the Senate Environment panel blames the media for creating hysteria over the "hoax" of global warming. Examples were cited of reporters calling scientists for interviews, and when the scientists were unwilling to attribute weather patterns to human influence, they were hung up on. Things like that.

What do you think of the media? If global warming is a hoax, is there any way to counter the media's alarmist reporting?

I'm pretty right wing on most issues but I totally buy into global warming. I think it's a problem.

I think of it this way; if global waming does exist and we don't do something about helping our atmosphere now, were fucked. However if global warming doesn't exist to the levels (almost all) scientists say it does, what's the harm in still helping clean up our atmosphere?

Since when is it a bad thing to do proactive things to help reduce energy consumption.

Change your heating/AC filters, change your lighting in your house to more energy efficent bulbs, recycle, use thermostats that have timers. If everyone did these little things it helps the big picture, ya know?

I don't see why helping the enviroment has to be such a political issue. It's the only planet we got for now, so might as well try not to trash it.

      I'm assuming two premises here:

-Possibility of the existence of global warming

-If global warming exists, it is caused by humans (i.e. pollution)

I'll believe scientists can predict what the weather will be like in 100 years when they can predict what the weather will be like next week. Until then, I'm disregarding any prophetic predictions of global warming/cooling/etc myself.

I also found it interesting how in the one article the scientists talks about the media and other scientists trying to cover up the Medieval warming period.

As far as what Punch posted, it's pretty common sense stuff, things that are helpful to do from a cost standpoint if nothing else. I view the current state of recycling with a little skepticism though.

But left unchecked, this hysteria will ultimately affect everyone. From economic disaster, to little things like, maybe, a ban on using combustion-based power in transportation?

The issue isn't conservation Punch, it's about whether or not we have been and are being lied to. It is a good thing to be conservative with energy but not to do it through legislation when it not nessisary. This is the only planet we have but this old rock can take alot more of a hit than all the energy production methods we have. Mind you I'm not getting into nuke boom booms.

And even if the temprature is rising, so what? The temprature is ALWAYS going to be either falling or rising.

To me this shows that for one we will be ok without the polar caps drowning us all. It also tell me that there is some sort of agenda being pushed here.

Well, being that almost all scientists feel global warming exists is good enough for me.

I trust them a lot more then our politicans. If conservative "think tanks" and conservative politicans tell me global warming is a lie I'll take it with a HEAVY grain of salt.

Afterall these are the same people who told us Iraq had WMD's right?

I guess the only weapon at the average person's disposal to combat all these folks telling us these things one way or another is common sense.

My common sense this morning, when it was 1 degree out, said that it was safe to put any immediate concerns about global warming to the very very bottom of the pile.

Afterall these are the same people who told us Iraq had WMD's right?
Yeah a bunch of politicians on both sides of the aisle said that. I guess my understanding of why we went into Iraq though is because Saddam kicked out all the weapon inspectors and the UN warned him that he would be removed by force if he didn't comply with that. The troops and such were told to be aware that there was a good possibility that there was WMDs though, since it seemed Saddam was hiding something, enough so as to suffer severe consequences.

Great point you've changed my mind. Scientific practice really hasn’t changed much since the 1400's anyways.

I'll show you two downs of a football game in the second quarter, this should be plenty of information to tell me who will win.

Global warming is now being blamed for no hurricanes. Another study shows that forest fires help cool the atmosphere by blocking rays.

When the last vulcano erupted it dumped 10 years of human polution into the air.
                I got no answers.

I say fuck it! Who cares! By the time it's a problem, like a serious problem, we'll all be gone! It will then be the next generation's problem. Hard work pays off later, laziness pays of now! Now, everyone remove your catalyic converters and go burn some tires.

Due to global warming, hurricanes are just going to get worse and worse!!!

Er, except for this year. We didn't have any hurricanes because of global warming. But if we would have had a lot of hurricanes, it would have been because of global warming!

We definitely need to watch out for this terrible global warming!

i don't buy into the global warming. scientists have proven that the earth goes in climatic cycles, and also that right now we are in a rising temperature cycle and will be till we're all dead.
also the other night on a show they showed some news article from the 60s that said the earth was cooling down and that we need to do everything we can to heat it up, and i guess that was the general consensus back then. so what the fuck does anyone know anyway?

and, even if global warming does exist, what are we going to do to stop it? are you going to stop using your computer? stop driving and using all oil products? stop buying products? nothing. nobody, even the green tree huggers are really ready to change their lives to help the warming. turning off a bulb here and there won't do it either

Haven't you seen "The Day After Tomorrow"?? If the Cheney lookalike character doesn't go along with a bill to reduce global warming, then the whole earth will freeze over, and cold air will chase people down hallways like a monster, icing over everything in it's path, and when the cold air gets to them, it will defy the laws of thermodynamics and turn then solid in seconds!!

We can help reduce global warming by reducing our emission of pollutants by another 0.05% That will surely make up for the pollution from other countries around the world who do not regulate it at all.

                            Hurricanes = WMDs

If mother nature does not relinquish these hurricanes and allow weapon inspectors in the atmosphere, we're going to have to deploy troops I'm afraid.

There is no such thing as global warming caused by us. It is just a natural cycle that the earth is going thru.
