smells in my house

[I was fast]

so i wake up at like 5am my 3 year is throwing up and has been once an hour and its smells funny in hear like burning plastic or electric burning smell its coming from the heater ducts i think. check around EVERYWHERE nothing hot anywhere and no fires or anything. anybody know what this smell could be? we are thinking maybe dust and crap in the ducts??

okay so i shut the heat off and the smell is going away some stink still lingering but not as bad, but i cant have the heat off all day

Call a heating and a/c company, and ask them, see if somebody can come out.

Dust in the ducts would be burned off when the furnace first fires up in the fall. Something could have gotten into the furnace, sometimes birds sit on the exhaust stack and fall in, but usually they end up flying around in the ducts.


If you're handy you could take a peak in the access panel while the furnace is off. Otherwise have someone come and look at it.

^ I agree. If your kid is sick from it, it can't be good. Call and get someone out there to make sure your house (and air in it) is safe.

I had what sounds like the same thing happen and it turned out to be the blower motor in the furnace going bad, I smelled it and then i even ended up seing a very light smoke in a couple rooms. stunk like wires burning. I don't know if thats your issue but it sounds like a possabilty. Good luck hope the little one is feeling better.

i guess the hvac guy at work told mike to come home and check out a bunch of stuff. im not sure if my son is sick from that for just sick. i didnt smell anything until around 5am, he was throwing up since abotu 2am. it seems like the heat is going off and on tooo fast. like it will turn off, then a min. later turn back on. and keep doing that. i shut the heat off and the smell went away, i turned it back on and it took around 10 min. to turn on but it doesnt smell that bad anymore

Since its cycling so fast its probably the blower motor. The motor goes into thermal overload and shuts off to quickly causing the cycling. Have someone take a look at it.,

well no carbon monoxide in here and the motor is fine. still unsure what caused this this morning. everything smells fine now!!

Sometimes a furnace will just smell when it has to strt up and run hard for the first time in the year, alot of shit can get down in there..

lol, its not like its the 1st time the furnace has been on though is whats strange, buts its running too much i think. it shuts off for like a min or two then turns back on
