    Camera People

Im looking to buy a digital camera.

Will be used for mostly point-and-shoot shitty pics, but I would also like some adjustability to take some nicer pics of cars, planes, boats etc.

looking to spend somewhere in the $300 range.

Was looking at canons, but thats because its what they have at target. Let me know what you guys think would be the best for an inexperienced n00b like myself.

    thanks

I wanted pretty much the same thing as you, and ended up getting a Canon powershot G6. only downside, it's kind of bulky for a point and shoot camera, not exactly something you would easily carry in your jeans pocket. otherwise perfect for what i needed... and it was a bit more expensive than that range

I have a Cannon S3 IS and I am very impressed with it. Not exactly a compact camera though. My brother just bought a Cannon A710 IS and it works very well too and is much smaller.

Simple...easy to use...small (put it in your pocket and forget)...has good ISO range and good Apeture range.

Alittle more bulky...easy to use...same ISO and Apeture as the above.... but more "play with me ability" IE adjustments

(Both are in the price range you want...there are better cameras then above, but are gonna cost more. But theres also alot worse...but those are my two recommandations)

I kept going back and forth between the S3 IS and the G6 when i bought mine... basically boiled down to manual focus and manual control over all of the properties (shutter, iso, aperture, etc) vs better zoom and better price... the thing that won me over was the ability of recording video for as long as you want/have space for, so i figured that'll spare me having to buy a camcorder too later on...

I didn't find out till later you weren't able to zoom in and out during a vid though...

I have the last years version of this one. It takes great pics and has a lot of adjustability but it is too big for my liking.

If you want a point and shoot that takes good pics get one of the Canon S series cameras rather than an A series.

I have a Cannon SD800IS, it was a little more that $300 but well worth it.
