    Idiots

The dollar coins haven't worked before with the Sacagawea and the Susan B Anthony, but yet they want to give it yet another go.

I think they are making them to sell to collectors. It's pretty profitible.

I think the only reason that dollar coins failed, is that they still continued to print $1 bills. If they actually minted enough $1 coins, there would be no problem replacing bills with them.

The problem with the dollar coins is that none of the coin operated devices (vending machines, car washes, etc) take the dollar coins because the government has been so wishy washy about whether or not we are going to use coins. I would rather keep a handful of ones tucked nicely in my wallet rather than having them jingle around in my pocket.

$1 coins don't work because the public does not want them. Period. When $1 coins were last minted, they had real value. When you index those coins to the dollar today, they would be worth very little.

People don't want to carry coins. Having another is only a cost saving initiative for the government as bills wear out and need to be replaced. If peeps don't want 'em, they don't want 'em. AND they don't work in vending machines! AND their size makes them mis-identified.

If the government would stop making $1 bills, and start destroying the ones currently in circulation, then all of your points would be shattered. If people don't want to carry coins, then why not make 25 cent bills? If there were only $1 coins, and not $1 bills, then vending machines WOULD take them, because vendins machine manufacturers would be forced to make the switch. Personally, I think there should be dollar coins, and quarter dollar coins. Dimes, nickels and pennies should be phased out. Seriously...the existence of pennies in this day and age is absolutely ridiculous. We have the same smallest denomination of currency as we did 200 years ago. IMO all transactions should be rounded to the nearest quarter dollar. All nickels dimes and pennies are good for is filling up a jar in my bedroom. The only time I ever take any change with me when I go out, is if I grab a couple quarters to have some "pocket change" with me.

                            Nice ninja edit.

Anyway, rounding all transactions to the nearest quarter dollar is just one more way for the consumers to nickel and dime you to death. I would rather have my jar full of change (usually $50 or $60 worth by the time I take it in) sit in my bedroom than be cheated out of that money.

That is only true if they round UP. What if a would-be transaction was $1.60? Then if would be rounded off to $1.50. Things would cancel themselves out. Same way they do it if the actualy calculated total (after tax) is $1.5005....you pay $1.50, not $1.51. I just think that anything smaller than a quarter is a nuisance.
