LCD Widescreen monitor blows me away

Just watched I Robot and The Day After Tomorrow DVD's on Samsung 225BW widescreen LCD monitor with DVI input. Awesome detail, colors, brilliant display. Totally freaked out as my brothers LCD tv didn't impress me at all and this is totally 1000% better.

Ok, I'm a Noob at LCD TV's. What are the top 3 brands?

I just ordered a 19" acer widescreen as well recently. Can't wait to get it. As far as top 3 brands, it's all who you ask.

Samsung is considered one of the best though. At least by gamers.

This is second Samsung LCD monitor and they are both great.

I <3 my 61" Samsung DLP and my Samusng Upconvert DVD.. I'll be looking for an LCD for the Bedroom in the next year or so, and I know I'll be looking at Samsung! My Dad's Sony Bravia LCD is slighty better looking then my DLP. But I know Samsung makes some good shit!

we have a 61 inch Samsung DLP and I dont think there was a tv that looked as sharp, is yours the 1080P samsung (piano black, came out in may of this year) or is it the 780P?

I just got a new Samsung 46" LCD and LOVE it. Awesome picture quality, and I didn't see the value of going to 1080p when nothing is broadcast in it yet really. I'll probably look for a smaller one for my bedroom too because now I never like to watch TV in there anymore

I agree....I'll upgrade in a few years when they are cheaper. I couldn't justify spending $4000+ on a fucking TV lol.

Samsung makes the majority of LCD screens, even for manufacturers like SONY. Samsung will take over the world.

• The SONY Bravia is the most vibrant right now.
• LCDs still have some issues with artifacts on fast moving scenes/action sequences.
• While brighter, they lack the viewing angle and daytime viewing capability of plasma.

Where SONY gets its WOW factor is in the contrast.

• Contrast is what the human eye understands.
• What I don't like about SONY with contrast is that their BLACKS are too saturated and one loses detail in the dark areas of the screen. (lapels on a jacket disappear, but the colors POP elsewhere.
• I'd personally settle for slightly less color as long as detail in dark areas was viewable.

Lesser viewing angle or sweet spot
Bulbs burn out and can be replaced at lesser cost ($200+)

Samsung owns for picture quality..They have a fast refresh rate that doesnt ghost or slur the pixels like cheaper LCD's..

I have a 65" widescreen sharpvision HDTV that has hybrid CRT projectors that still amaze me..Not the greatest viewing angles like LCD or plasma but the image quality(color,sharpness,detail) is absolutely amazing for such a huge screen..And the re-fresh rate is so fast it keeps up no matter how fast the visual information changes..As you stated about artifacts GTO,LCD and DLP's pixels take longer to turn on/off and change colors..So the picture is more likely to slurr or ghost when there are a lot of visual changes in a short time...It only realy becomes a problem with larger LCD and plasma screens 40 inches and up.. Thats the main reason for the introduction of 1080 P since LCD hates interlaced images and 720 lines of resolution isnt enough for the large LCD and plasma screens available now..

You can stack and add line doublers to CRT projectors..High end units have 180k refresh rates and have up to 2000 lines of resolution.. 2000p..

Here is some information that might not be well known..

A CRT projector can produce the blackest blacks of all projector types as well as the full range of color, giving a CRT projector the ability to project the most film-like images of projectors for home use.

A LCD projector can often times exhibit what is called "the screen door effect". Since the screen is made up of individual pixels, the pixels can be visible on a large screen, thus giving the appearance of viewing the image through a "screen door".

Since an LCD chip is made up of a panel of individual pixels, if one pixel burns out it displays an annoying black or white dot on the projected image. Individual pixels cannot be repaired, if one or more pixels burn out, the entire chip has to be replaced.

Although a DLP projector doesn't exhibit the "screen door" effect of many LCD units, a DLP projector can exhibit what is referred to as "the rainbow effect". Basically, the "rainbow effect" is exhibited by a brief flash of colors (like a small rainbow) when the viewer rapidly looks from side to side on the screen or looks rapidly from the screen to side of the room.Thats because color is added to a DLP image as light passes through a high-speed color wheel.




On the floor there was much talk of the death of CRT, but in the next sentence CRT would be invoked as a "reference" standard to judge digital image performance. Still kicking, just moving upscale.



DLP rear projection TV's have been a hot topic recently, due to their size and very attractive pricing. They were OK in my opinion, they had a good wide viewing angle and were plenty bright. Some artifacts and the contrast levels are not where they should be to compete with CRT RPTV and even the newer Plasma. The 65" plasma prototype should have stayed home, not ready for prime time yet. 1080p might not be enough resolution for screens this big and larger for the DLP and LCD units.
