They are supposedly out... I don't really dig them and especially not for 40G's. Car companies really need to pull their heads outta their asses with their new car pricing.
Iv seen 3 or 4 of them, not sure it one was seen 3 times or what but iv seen a red one 3 diffrent times and also the blue/purple color, this was about a month ago, havent seen one sisne the snow really started flying, kinda fugly if you ask me but to each his own
There's no reason why it should cost that much. They used mostly off-the-shelf parts including Trailblazer chassis and motor. I s'pose just for exclusivity. If the SSR wasn't such a weird configuration, there's no reason why that shouldn't be a high volume model. I've actually thought that would be a good way to bring back a classic muscle car name, base it on a compact truck frame a la the Chevy Bel Air show car of a few years ago. Or manufacturers could even base the cars they race in Nascar on their trucks. Hey, with a solid body-on-frame design with solid rear axle, they could even race cars that are far closer to their production counterparts than those stupid things they race now. Win on sunday sell on monday would come back in full form. Ranger-based Torino GT with 5.4L power vs. Colorado-based Chevelle SS with the 5.3 anyone?
I remember seeing it on some car tv show...I think Motor Trend. I remember that when they were testing it that its actually very slow. 0-60 in 7.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 15.9 at 90mph and that is all with 3.73 gears. Its kinda sad that Chevy even made it. It would have made more sense if they had kept the f-body and redesigned it to fit the market better. Well whatever, Im a Ford guy anyways.
I cant say the SSR is a great looking thing...it isn't practical in any specific way...it has too much of the "oh, theres one of those" factor, which fades pretty quick...just like the PT Cruiser...

That's the exact same thing I was thinking when I was reading this tread.

nooooooooooo. it would be based on a truck. i had that idea before all this GTO craziness started. I don't think importing a high volume model from Australia is really practical anyway.

No, it isn't practical, but it won't take long for Chevy to put their twist on the GTO....then they'll be made in Mexico which is wayyyy closer
