    Flat Black Mustang?

Anyone ever think about doing their Mustang in flat black? Just wondering. I have seen some cars in a smoother flat black (maybe primer?) that I didn't like, but I've also seen some that are rough to the touch, which I think is cooler.

Thoughts? Pics? I imagine most will think it's a dumb idea. It's probably just a phase.

I think flat black is key, but I prefer it next to gloss black. The two tones together compliment each other quite well. See sig.

My dak is gloss black, and flat blacked the hood and roof, looks good IMO.

Thanks in advance. How did you go about "flat-blacking" it?

I sanded the hood and roof with some sanding blocks, then used ultra flat black Krylon Primer then did some light sanding to get the spray marks out.

Turned out well. The hood was more difficult as it was windy as hell, but I was determined to get it done on that day. Also did the front and rear bumpers.

Watched the powerblock on spike this last weekend and they painted the f-100 on trucks flat black. They said if you do with just primer it will not last very well. They used this: PPG Black Epoxy Sealer, Jet Black Base Coat and Pre-Flattened Clear Coat .

I dont expect it to last years, but it was a $2000 truck with 170+k miles on it.
Everything is low cost on this truck 3-4 cans total i believe.
Its been 5+ months, so far so good, parked outside in the sun.

It's really hard to keep clean, (because it's black) obviously, but when you wash and dry it you get a lot of smudge marks that look like grease. Thats what I have found.

A few pics of my car

Word of advice, dont do primer. They make a flat black paint for rat rods. Use that. Anyway my whole car is flat black enjoy!
