National Guard to guard borders?

bush is to announce in his speech if it will be so. it's about time we militirize the borders, and i think it's ok for the federal use of state troops in situations like this in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

There are full-time and part-time National Guard. I think it's a hardship for the part-time to do this. Not sure the Army is the best either. It will make the news when illegal's get shot trying to cross the border.

Bush should just build the fence and double or triple the border patrol.

after serving in the ranks of the Infanty in the cities of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan i can tell you it would be done right fist down even though i can garuntee they will use MP's, besides it's too much paperwork if you murder some nobody, trust me.

I should have been more careful with my statement. I didn't mean it would be freefire on illegals, just someone could get shot, especially if the coyotes leading the illegals pop a few in the direction of our guys. If that happened by the military, I think we would have some rioting in population centers like LA that have a large hispanic population. That is a risk that doesn't need to be taken imo. If the Border Patrol fires back, I think that's more acceptable and understood then the military.

My other point was I don't think ARNG should have to bear the financial hardship of leaving their civilian jobs to guard the border. Let the fed budget and fund the appropriate level of protection. Instead, I'm reading about tax cuts. Give me break.

i agree with you, although i don't mind being deployed as under federal law one cannot be fired from work becuase of deployment, and 80% of companies continue to pay up to six months regular wage even though their worker is deployed within the military, so it's like your getting paid by the government and you job even though your not working.

what you also mention about latino riots, it could be so although i feel that there is a "silent" invasion on our country with the illegals migrating in full strength. there are more illegals in this country then there are people in the state of minnesota, and they take our welfare but don't pay taxes draining our system, and like wordup suggested that we militirize untill the border control can be tripled in size, and walls built. as a matter a fact, i would voulunteer for that deployment if they let riflemen and elite troops in the "program" if it ever becomes a reality.
