I think thats dumb. Like the article said, they are only a marketplace. They cannot be held responsible for the authenticity of all items listed by private sellers on their site.LOOK HERE:Originally posted by Pony5.0but hey we have broken up 2 times in the past week and she keeps crawling back to me and she told me she would never crawl back to a guy and i am the only one. she tells me she loves me and everything!

It will be interesting to see what happens. Part of me says E-bay needs to beef up their investigations unit, banning sellers of fake products, but part of me says that buyers shouldn't be so damn dumb. If the price is too good to be true, it is likely that whatever you are buying is either fake, broken, etc.All this negativity that's in this town sucks

The sellers/buyers need to be held responsible not ebay themselves. What about the people that want to buy the knockoff products? If you are looking for something collectable I sure would hope that you would inquire with the seller before just automatically bidding/buying. If they say it is the real deal and you get it, then you go after the seller via paypal, ebay, or even police if need be.

A harmonious thread? What is this an incredibly boring night?
That said, Ebay will be found not guilty and will not be made to be the Mom & Dad for everyone listing. Newspaper ads never did. It's the old Caveat Emptor saying. It's the buyer's responsibility to check stuff out. Buying from someone who "claims" to have an item is always dicey when you don't get to touch/smell/feel it first.
Ebay's model is fine. A dose of common sense should apply. "if the deal seems TOO good, it probably isn't such a good deal..."

I could see PayPal being responsible since they advertise and sell buyer and seller protection.
They even profit from these fraudulent transactions.
A solution may even be possible by bonding sellers which would help against fraudulent transactions and protect the buyers against such actions.

Paypal is immune just like Ebay is immune. Exactly the same thing. Paypal merely transfers money between two parties and takes a bite of each.Originally posted by X32 lAROA solution may even be possible by bonding sellers which would help against fraudulent transactions and protect the buyers against such actions.
But the solution of bonding sellers will fail. This is like making companies register with Verisign to prove that your site is who you say it is. All this does is to provide a false sense of security that will be exploited by the bad guys within 1 second of being announced.
Paypal should stay out of it - this is not their fight...

OK. here's a popular new scam. Selling counterfeit transmission fluid that's basically oil with red dye in it. Will you be happy about something like that?
That's bullshit. You want to buy counterfeit jewelry for your girlfriend? Crooks get your money instead of a respectable, successful company. That undermines any effort to build a successful business these days. Just like the crook can steal your money and good rep, they can destroy it too!The sellers/buyers need to be held responsible not ebay themselves. What about the people that want to buy the knockoff products?
