    Dear John's.... Nice job! ((not))

Cross posted to a number of boards to aid my fellow gear-head.
This is about my recent disappointment with one of the local boneyards - John's Auto Parts. I posted this on John's own forum - but I doubt it will last long there.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

So my son's Jeep Cherokee gets broken into - they take (break) out the wing window.. They steal the radio and screw up the dash nicely in the process..

Well - he's hurting now as he just had a major surgery and can't do much for himself.
He needs a wing window. First call - John's (where else).. Yep we've got one. $25. Comeon down.

I get on the website here and check availability one more time before I make the 25 mile trek. The website shows it. Son calls them again and confirms that this wing window will work in his Cherokee. Yep it'll work just fine they say.

    So I go ahead and drive up there and talk with Brian there who asks me who I talked to. I didn't talk to anyone. Don't know who my son talked to. Told him about the part being on the website and my son had called to confirm that it was in stock and called again to make sure that it would work in his vehicle. He asked what price was quoted and I said $25 on the phone and it was also the price on the website. He clicked on the computer another minute or so and said;
I don't have that part here. We have one old Cherokee in the yard, it may or may not have the glass you're looking for. If you want to go out and see and then take it out, I'll sell it to you. Or you can pay one of my guys to take it out for you.

Well, that's a problem I said. I don't have any tools with me and now you're talking about me having to pay an additional charge for one of your guys to pull it. I'm out of here.

Well John's - all I can say is that while the number of boneyards in metro area is decreasing and you used to be the best - you're not the only option. I drove 50+ miles for the "fun of it" and since I can't count on your folks to maintain at least a rudimentary skill of communication within your own business and to me, the consumer, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Meanwhile $.10 worth of duct tape is doing the job.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hammar

P.S. I doubt that this message will last long here - so I will be posting it on other electronic forums as well to warn my fellow gearhead to GET A NAME from your phone jockey before he wastes his time like I wasted mine.
    Regards - Randy

$hit happens. It's a common mistake everywhere you go sooner or later. If every place in the world never cycled workers we might get better service, but that'll never happen.

I posted this on their forum: Hmm, I too have had a bad experience. Long story short, they threatened to take my tools, and call the police on me. All because they tried to cheat me on a pair of patch panels for my car. I will NEVER go back to Johns Auto. They have been going downhill for quite some time now. I have even steered many people away from Johns.

I go to both johns and u-pull... but then again i'm in there every 2weeks.. they are pretty decent to me.

Not to be a bother but before you made the long trup up and you parked in their front parking lot, walking by all the people that carry tools and strutting up to their counter did you ever come to realize that you might have forgotten to ask if the part you were looking for was on the shelf or not?

Not to persecute you but honestly I always ask, just to be clear with the guy on the phone if I need to bring tools or not. Or just count on it still being in the car anyway.

BTW johns maybe a little more than anyone else but its the overhead they carry and its also about conveinence.

Hutch has a good yard, farmington has viking, isanti auto parts is very good on jeep stuff as well as west cambridge and then you have all the ones on hwy 61.... and even then you still have fridley auto parts which hs everything on the rack.

I'm just saying my .02 but there are tons of options and a person that dealt with this more often would be in-the-know, so think of it as a learning experience and quit acting like a woman.

You know - I guess since I saw the part on their list on the Web and priced at $25 - my presumption is that the part is available and ready to ship. I saw nothing on any of the John's site that said that the removal of the part from the car in the yard was extra.

Actually - They have quite a selection there (wasn't my first rodeo with Johns) of used parts on the shelf including glass.

In short, I had no reason to suspect that the part was not readily available. Certainly I would and will ask in the future, but I doubt that I'll be going back to John's anytime soon..

If I wanted to pull my own parts - I would have gone to U-Pull (I spend many hundreds of dollars annually there)... Nice folks to do business with from my experience.

I don't mind them... Better luck next time I guess...also, I wouldn't trust that website deal ever, i just don't think you can accurately catalog that many parts online in that fashion. Call them many times before going lol.

Yeah, and continue to call them on the ride out there to make sure somebody else isn't there trying to buy the same part!

As a rule and with my many experiences they dont catalog parts in their computer until they are pulled and on the shelf, sometimes there is an exception, but not usually. Next, yes fuck johns auto part, both the shop I used to work at and my buddies shop have been fucked by them on warranties and part avaiability. Im 100% for Viking Auto salvage, they always treat me right, and they honor their warranties pretty much no question asked.

Yeah Viking is the shit! I wish they openly let people in there yard still. Now its like pulling teeth to get back there. I used to walk around there for hours! Found shit for cars I didn't even own and bought it.
