If you think you are gonna build that kind of complex in Minnesota without a rather lengthy and complex enviromental impact study you are crazy.

A buddy of mine was visiting his Dad one weekend, and it turns out that his dad is friends with one of the higher-ups at Pine Run. A small world.

I don't know what stage you are at with the MPCA. But we do impact studies for municipal citys. From Waste Water Treatment Facilities to leaky underground storage tanks from old gas stations. we handle all the engineering for small cities and do many impacks. PM me if you would like help on them. I don't know if i could help but we do about 1 a month and have gotten quite use to them. Also do you have an engineering company representing you? If you don't, it may be in your best intrest having a Civil PE sign off on your paperwork.

EDIT: I just saw that you have Metro and American up to bat for you. I also saw Scott Jensen Backhoe, I know Scott well. It's a small small world. I hope things work out! I think it would benefit central minnesota in a huge way! If that location dosen't work out. Might suggest looking up Hwy 10 just past St. Cloud. Rice and Royalton come to mind! I know that the infrastructure would be able to handle it.

Mikey is righter than right on this one!

I work for the City of Saint Paul, and if anyone builds anything... no matter how large or small. There needs to be an environmental impact study done. It's not just the City, County, and State, but the Fed.s require it as a part of any large construction project. And it's not just "environmental hippie bullcrap" that is apart of an environmental impact study, they also have to answer questions like, "If you have 300 people all trying to leave at the same time, how are they going to do that with the current traffic infrastructure in place?"

The reason a lot of projects die at the environmental impact study-stage is that they cannot sufficiently answer those questions to the detail required by the civil/traffic/environmental engineers of the governing bodies. Then you have to fight the citizens, which are usually more of a PITA than the governing bodies (MAC excluded, as they can be genuinely obnoxious).

Hell, the City itself has problems getting projects through (and we are well staffed with engineers ready to answers Env Impact Study Q's) because even if they Fed.s say it's okay (at first) and the State gives it a thumbs up, the citzenry can pressure people into calling for ANOTHER ROUND of studies to verify the first, second, third, ..., ones... It takes a lot of money, time, and patience, to get things like this built and I admire the organizers for working to make it happen.

What we need is a dragstrip in the twin cities. Build it on the military land by the big airport. No one would even know it was there.

EAW's are 6 pages long. not that hard to fill out. it is the added exhibits that go along with them that can get muddled in confusion.

Rice and Royalton are both awfully close to Brainerd. If you are driving to either of those locations, driving a bit further to the North should not be too large of an inconvienience.

Brainerd? Clubhouse issues aside and back to car topics, your kidding right? I mean that was a joke. Let’s use the argument that the cost of admission equals out what it costs me to trailer my car to oh, say Cedar Falls. Lets compare, how many trips down the 1320' track you get at either track. Then lets talk about track prep or where some call "the house of hook" and there is reason. the launch is where your heart skips a beat, or for that matter the first 60 of the 1320 is where you put up or shut up. the 60 is totally where its at. then for the fact at hand lets say you wanted to get your SCCA drivers license. Well because the road track is in such disrepair it is deemed in insurable buy the SCCA insurance company. So now i have to use my entertainment money and trailer my car to Illinois to get my license, cuz yeah, i'm not going to rent a car there. NO it will be with my car, the car that i love to painfully spend money on.

Brainerd should just be turned into a housing development. Brainerd is an inconvenience! an inconvenience that when the argument comes up "Why don't you just go street race at Brainerd?" all i can do is shake my head. the only problem with that is that comment is generally generated by non-carenthusists and defiantly not by some one who is a TCS Auto-X Driver such as yourself. by no means was i in anyway trying to flame your comments. it is just after going to a few different tracks with a few different classes of cars. one quickly learns to seek car enjoyment any other place but Brainerd!

Pine Run would breath competition into Brainerd and make them shape up or sell out.

Rumor has it the airport was built on an old dragstrip back in the day. Who knows what truth there is to it. I can't even remember where I heard it.

Is there any room out there? With the flack the airport already gets I doubt this would be too popular though. St. Paul Park just annexed a bunch of land from Grey Cloud Island but they want to build a luxury neighborhood there so there's someone to shop at the strip mall they want to build.
