Maybe at the next get together, every one who had their car at mads and rods can get a pic of themselves with the trophy?

            2003 Vette wins a trophy?

Is it just me or does anybody else think that it's unfair for a new corvette to win a trophy at mods/rods? All that guy did was throw $60k on the dealerships desk and BOUGHT himself a trophy IMO.

Also, that purple VIPER that was at the show was absolutely filthy. If I had the bucks for a car like that you can bet it would be sanitary enough to do surgery in it. Some people just have way too much money.

I'm not saying it wasn't a beautiful car....just trying to say that a lot of the people there put a lot of personal blood, sweat and tears into some of those cars. The 56 Chevy (for instance), that took a couple trophies, deserved them.

I do have to say, in defense of the show, that this was a very difficult show to judge.

All car shows are really. One cannot say the person with the '56 Chevy didn't just pay to have all of that work done to it. Hypothetically, it could have been purchased from another for 60k or purchased in need of some TLC then had money thrown at it by the owner in order to bring it to pristine mechanical and aesthetic condition. So determining who put more work into their motor vehicle is very hard to say, at least without interviewing the driver. And even if one did interview the driver's there would be a lot of people at a severe disadvantage. While some people, like myself, are experienced at public speaking and are very good on their feet, many people reading this would have problems without a notecard or pre-typed peice telling them everything to say. So with no interview and very little previous knowledge the "who did more work" standard is very very hard to prove and give credit.

This show became particularly tricky because you had judges of very many different disciplines. You had Judges that are very heavily into the import scene. They can say what is or isn't "cool" about a particular car. I can't say for shit what the difference is really between two civics with half-primered body kits and Altezza taillights. The fuck if I know, and I can't say that really floats my fancy either, but they know and care vehemently about small details of whether they're correctly marked lights or not. On the same token, they couldn't tell you what the difference are in different mustang subtlties, and they probably don't care to know either. Making the whole thing a very precarious situation.

Plus, if it was a people's choice awards ... they're an utter crap shoot anyway. Hell the MESS could've won it...

You're absolutely right. The guy with the 56 'may' have paid to have everything done or bought it restored. I'm not, so much, stressing the individual's work involvement as much as that the Vette is, virtually, a brand new factory fresh car. How could it NOT be pristine? I'm happy for the guy. He's obviously successful if he can afford the vette he drives....I just don't happen to think he should win a trophy (at that particular event....a vette show, okay) for a brand new car. Just my opinion. Hell...I've won a couple, and I feel that MY car is still too new to be a trophy winner. Obviously, people with 'new cars' (regardless of manufacturer) would disagree with me on this one.

Not to be a dick or anything, but the 03 Cobra won for best interior and that looked like it was picked up from ford on the way to the show.

Yeah, and the guy likes his Cobra, and there were multiple people on the Judging panel.

Plus if you really wanna start complaining that there should've been a concours standard I think you're a bit off grounds.

First, the idea of the show wasn't about awards it was about doing two different things. One, having an "everyone's welcome even if I hate your car" car show. There's nice guys playing every game there is to play with cars, and you may or may not like their choice, and there's no reason to be a dick about it. Many car shows are ran by people with big-ego's ... they're dicks about it. Two, it gave MADD some cash to do their thing which is pretty important and probably one of the organizations responsible for lowering Drunk Driving statistics in Minnesota and elsewhere.

Second, not everyone likes a concours show. You should see my motor vehicle at car shows, I use it as a: Cooler, Trash Can, Tool storage, parts store, entertainment center, park bench, table, vice, utility knife, sink (just turn on the pump, wash hands in the cooler.), and more. I'm sure there are other exampls to a lesser extreme that other people do, but I'm just saying.

Third, this was a "First Annual" which means they haven't really established solid show standards yet. I don't think anyone in the planning crew ever ran a car show before, and yet, it turned out quite well. Props to Dan and crew ...
