Interesting rumor on a new dragstrip...

Heard this one a couple days ago.

A NHRA sanctioned 1/4 drag strip down in Owatonna west of the Cabela's store off I-35.

I talked to a guy, who I've known as an acquaintance for years, and he said he saw the actual blueprint.

Only thing left is getting it by the Steele County Board for zoning purposes.

Anyone else heard this? Or am I behind the times....

Yes for the (millionth time ) this is Minnesota Dragways (www.minnesotadragways.com). Al actually was up at Car Craft and yes the site is down by Cabela's. They have already hired an engineer and architect I believe to do some drawings, design, and sketches. They also have been out on the proposed site doing a lot of pre-building work such as soil tests and elevations. There was a nice proposed design sketch on display at thier booth at Car Craft. Also they do have some local support and a hook up on the County Board for getting everything passed and through from what I have been told. Truthfully it sounds like it is gonna happen, but it is all a matter of exactly when and how long the paper work, legalities, and construction take. Personally I would be betting the soonest you would see phase one open would be in spring 2005, but I could definetly be wrong.

Well a lil drive but better then rock falls plans cant take 2 long though lol straight away n parkin lot couple stands n there ya go i could have one complete in 2 weeks lol but dats just me gotta have the $$$$ first

Still only an hour away and would give Rock Falls some much needed competition. Then maybe he'd do something about that track to keep the business!

yah, i beleive Bigblockpaul said thats where they planed on building it a week or 2 ago (and i THINK some one disagreed with him too ) but that sweet, thats only like 45 min away for me. i live like 10 min away from I-35, then its a straight shot down

Rock Falls would be hurting if this comes to pass. The track sucks. How much again for test-n-tune at Rock Falls? $80 bucks or something like that. It's $15 in Memphis and they do it every tuesday and thursday. I better stop. They might have the same prices as RF

i bet rf would be closer for me, i remember driving to cabelas when it opened and it took really long to get there.... when and if this happens though, the rock will be hurting, and it'll force them to get their shit together, and maybe lower their god damn rates too!
that's what happens when they have a monopoly like that.... they can have the shittiest track, and charge WAY more for it, and it'll still be packed with people.
it's funny, the people down here have many different options of tracks to go to.... they all keep their track really good, and usually have test and tune days every sunday, all day for 20-25 bucks.
(and they usually have some bracket racing in there too)

Yah Al's House Of Spin is waaaayyy overpiced. This would certainly be a good thing if it goes thru and it's cheaper and maybe have some weeknight gigs. Can you immagine how busy it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night if they ran it that way and it was cheap??
