Head on over to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and get all the latest critical patches.

And be sure your anti-virus software is up to date. If you don't have antivirus software and are to lazy/cheap to go buy some. You can use AVG Free Edition, which is a pretty decent antivirus app thats totally free.

The reason I say all this is because there is some pretty heavy virus activity out on the internet right now. I wont go into geeky details but there are 3 very nasty malware viruses going around that are speading like wildfire. Microsoft has released patches for the problems that these viruses are exploting, but you gotta actually install them.

Overview

Apple has released Security Update 2005-007 to address multiple
vulnerabilities affecting Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, Safari web
browser, and other products. The most serious of these vulnerabilities
may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code. Impacts of
other vulnerabilities include bypassing security restrictions and
denial of service.


I. Description

Apple Security Update 2005-007 resolves a number of vulnerabilities
affecting Mac OS X, OS X Server, Safari web browser, and other

VU#913820 - Apple Mac OS X Directory Services contains a buffer
overflow

A buffer overflow in Apple Mac OS X Directory Service's authentication
process may allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute
arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

VU#461412 - Apple Mac OS X Server servermgrd authentication vulnerable
to buffer overflow

Apple Mac OS X Server servermgrd contains an unspecified buffer
overflow vulnerability in its authentication handling routines. This

yes, it's how you become a tru e-thug. That kid didn't do shit, there was no reason to beat him up. He literally changed 3 lines of source code, I'm impressed he figured out that much. naw, new wave of worms is mainly targeted at win2k. Plus you don't have to validate to get security updates... you just can't use windowsupdate.com. You can still set the automatic updater to run everynight, which will pull any security updates, even if you're using a pirated copy.
