    depressed as hell

i just need to let something out. i dont know if any of you have BEST friends. like a dude you grew up with, spent ever summer spending every day with that person, closer than a brother. but i do, and he leaves for iraq tomorrow. 18 months. i mean, i have several friends in iraq and afghanistan, but this sucks.

if i look on the positive side, it'll just be 18 months without seing a dude (minus when he gets leave and we meet up in germany) and i shouldnt really worry too much about his safety. but i just wont know what to do with myself.

anyone had similar situations? got anything to cheer me up? bueller?

Try being the guy leaving .

Something tells me that if he is from around here (as in his unit), and he is deploying in this rotation to Iraq, I will be VERY near - if not in the exact same location as him when I get over there myself. PM me with his name and I will look out for him and say hi if I bump into him.
If you are able, save them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go. Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always. Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own. And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind.
