Here is an email from Ford motor company on the allocation for the GT500.

    All Ford Division Dealers
    Subject: SVT Distribution Plan
The purpose of this communication is to announce the following:
    · Revision to the SVT distribution policy
    · Allocation plan for the Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500
As we go forward, our goal is to expand our lineup of Ford performance oriented vehicles. One such example is the Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500 which is scheduled for production next summer. As we expect to have a strong line-up of performance products in the future, the cadence of these products
necessitates a change to our distribution policy. Accordingly, the Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500 and all future products engineered by SVT will be available to all dealers who complete the necessary certification requirements. This will further strengthen the Ford brand by providing us with a greater opportunity to drive showroom traffic by leveraging halo products in all our marketing communications.
This will also help achieve compliance with various state laws by providing all dealers who become certified the opportunity to sell performance oriented vehicles.

Certification Requirements to Sell SVT-Engineered Products
SVT-engineered products will be available to all dealers who complete the certification requirements. A unique certification plan will be announced for each SVT engineered product at a later date. Similar to Escape Hybrid, certification will likely include sales consultant training, technician training and purchase
of special service tools. As in the past, this opportunity will be open to all dealers who enroll in the SVT program and who meet SVT program requirements.

Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500 Allocation Plan
Dealers will be required to complete certification requirements to receive any type of allocation for the Shelby Cobra GT500. In recognition of their commitment to the program, current SVT dealers and SVT Focus dealers will receive preferential allocation for the Shelby Cobra GT500 for the first model year.

At current projections, we expect around 7,000 units to be produced for the 2007 model year. Allocation will be as follows:
    · Two incremental units for current full-line SVT dealers (605 dealers)
    · One incremental unit for SVT Focus-only dealers (700 dealers)
    · One unit for any dealer who completes certification requirements
    · One unit for 2005 President's Award winners (343 dealers)
    · Remaining production will be allocated based on a Mustang share-of-nation formula

    Allocation Example:
A current full-line SVT dealer who wins the 2005 President's Award will receive four units plus any units for Mustang share-of-nation.
Example: Full Line SVT Dealer: 2
    Completed certification: 1
    2005 President's Award: 1
    Mustang share-of-nation: TBD
    Managing Customer Expectations
We are already receiving customer inquiries about GT500 availability as well as reports of dealers holding deposits for this car. Dealer allocation will not be announced until the first quarter of 2006.

Despite the extremely high market interest in this product, it is important to appropriately manage the expectations of your customers according to your actual allocation.
    Sincerely,
    Darryl Hazel

So doing some math for the two full line SVT dealers in town, plus if they are a Presidents award dealer, plus the SVT Focus dealers in town and then some for Mustang allocations at the SVT dealers, I figure we'll be lucky if there are a total of 20 GT500's for sale in the Twin Cities for the entire 2007 model year. So each dealer has a couple. That means that they won't sell for less than sticker, plus they'll add on a nice dealer markup. Glad I decided not to wait and get a convertible instead. I could have swung the sticker price but not any markup.

A lot of ''retarded'' people will be paying more to be the first on the block. It's just a matter of how much.

yeah i know they will but mark up is pure profit for the dealer.
if you ORDER it you wont pay mark up. you will wait some time but will not pay the rediculous mark up. thats all.

That's just not true. My dad's company was giving away a new thunderbird when they 1st came out and since there was all the hype going on back then, the dealer told them if they still wanted the car, there would be a premium added to it. Sucks but what do you do. They couldn't not buy it since they committed to their agents that they would give it away. I bet the markup starts pretty high and then settles back down after a bit.

we are probably gonna see a markup of about $10K on the 07's. Hell there are still dealers getting up to $8K over sticker for 05 GT's.

8,394 Coupes and 5,082 Converts for a total of 13,476. That was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many.

Considering that for '04 they only did 5,664 total units.

I think they should make as many as there are orders. I always hate when they limit the supply to a number like 3000 or 7000 units. If you are buying it as a collectable, you really want to shoot for production numbers under 100 units. Then it may be worth paying a markup.

I like that they made alot of 03' Cobras. This allows the aftermarket to create alot of performance parts for a reasonable cost.

Example: Company "V" wants to make a blower kit for a certain limited production car (5000 made). Lets assume at best 30% buy blower kits for them, so 1500 blower kits could potentially be sold. Blower company "V" will have a fixed cost in developing this kit, so to recoup on the potential 1500 blowers they could sell, they would have to price them fairly high.

Now if 20,000 vehicles were sold, at the same assumption that 30% of the cars will get "V"'s blower kit, 6000 potential kits could be sold.

Now as most know, with larger quantities, prices of production gets cheeper and the savings are generally passed onto the end user. (Cheeper blowers for all)

Ever wonder why Corvette and Viper parts are much more expensive? The actual materials to make a Corvette header versus a Mustang header are very similar, but sure enough the Corvette header is 3 times the cost of the Mustang header. This all has to do with supply and demand for the product.

500,000 Mustangs and 15 different choices in Suppliers, versus 50,000 Corvettes and 5 different Suppliers. (all just hypothetical numbers)

Me being a poor working guy, I always like competition, as this brings out the "honest" price in products (my Economics degree speeking).

I hope, but know it wont happen, that Ford makes as many GT500's as they can get orders for. Who cares about limited production. If you want a limited production car, I'm sure Saleen and Steeda will have a version of the GT500. That will be a true collectable.
