    New guitar gear (pimp warning)

I bought an original peavey 5150 head (designed for and used by eddie van halen) and I got tired of seeing it sit on my floor so I picked up an uber affordable crate cabinet to play around with until I get a marshall 1960a

the guitar on the right is an MH-300 modified with dual active EMG 81 pickups (same set up kirk hammet uses)

BTW ESP makes guitars for metallica, slayer, soulfly, etc.

Cool stuff. I've always wantd a tube amp. I'm just affraid that in order to get a good sounding distortion you have to really drive the tubes hard.
I'll just have to settle for my Flextone II...

/me waits for the Line6 haters.

no way dude, stick with a high gain tube amp (has a seperate input for regular and high gain) and you'll get a beautiful warm crunch at 1.

I play this beast at home while everyone else is sleeping without disturbing anyone and I still get awesome distortion. Try one out, you'll never go back to solid state and you'll never have a need for distortion pedals

Kirk uses emg-81-85 setup more than 81-81. he even uses some of 60 and non active pickup ones.. I think he's got like 20 guitars..

The epiphone is pretty sweet, but with the peavy amp.. I dont know what kinda sound you're going for :\ I'll read the thread to see this one explained.

IMO, you should of gotten a mesa boogie triple rect... because thats like the best amp ever concieved made and existing... They sound really sweet with the les pauls and PRS guitars. Which are ofcourse a rip of the epiphone les paul according to the copyright law!

anyhow... to each their own. I practice with my guitar plugged into usually my FX processor, Since i use active pickups i can usually get away with plugging that right into my stereo... Best amp i've ever had... I only use the mesa boogie triple rect when im playing live if ever i do again!!!

Right now my guitar collection is a mess.. I havent played most of them in a year and their strings suck but for what its worth..

2 Jackson floyyd rose bridge guitars.
Emg 81-85, other ones just standard.

Forgot to mention the only acoustic ill ever own
a Cort something or another double solid with adjustable neck

My amp is ofcourse a mesa boogie triple rect, and im using

Cool! I have a fender tube amp from the 70's and mostly play my Gibson SG. Don't have much time anymore though...

If you're bashing the peavey amp you must not have played it, that amp was designed for EVH and it's the standard in metal today.

It's a high gain amp that gets just as much gain as the triple rectifier, I just don't want to spend $2k on an amp head.

As for the 81s, Kirk Hammet uses dual 81s in his ESP KH2, which is the axe he uses most throughout a live performance.

                          He owns over 200 guitars.

The 81s can get just as much as a clean, you just have to know how to use them.

Turn the volume on the guitar down just a tad, and use the neck pickup and you'll get great clean tones

                            are you stupid?

THe 81 will sound different depending on which is being used (bridge or neck)
