    New Plates

    Lemme know how this makes sense... outside of another way to hit a person for more money.

    I went to get tabs for the Cobra lastnight. I've had vanity plates since I got the car in '98. I noticed on my renewal that I had a $14.00 plate charge? So I ask the gal @ the DMV what that's all about. She tells me that my plates are 7 years old, and I need to get new plates. I say "But they're vanity plates? How's that work? Do I get the same plate??"
    She explains that I get the same plates in the mail, just new.
    So I have to clarify with her; "lemme get this straight... even though I have vanity plates, they're seven years old, and I have to get *new* plates, even though it's the exact SAME plate and nothing changes but the sticker??"
    "Yep" is the simple reply, and she procedes to gimme the yellow temp tag that is supposed to be taped to the back window... which won't be done cuz you wouldn't be able to see it thru the tint anyways pretty much!

    I can see this being a score if someone's plates are uncovered and it's on a daily vehicle that sees the elements and abuse of every day driving... but mine are just about as new as when I got 'em 7 years ago! Guess I'll have spares for garage art or something.

    I think its just in general after a certain age. MOST people don't take care of their cars like you do with that cobra.

      yep thats the way it goes, i got hit with it too on my car last year....my old plates were in great shape so i took the old ones and had one of them framed up nice and hung it on the wall.....

        The main reason is because you accumulate layers of year/month tabs and after about five years accumulation a low life motherf&*() can shave your current tabs off with a razor. It happened to me when I lived in Murderapolis. That was the explanation I got when I went over to the capitol with my receipt to prove I had bought new tabs.
