Teresa Heinz Kerry is openly skeptical about results from November's election, the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER reports, particularly in sections of the country where optical scanners were used to record votes.

"Two brothers own 80 percent of the machines used in the United States," Heinz Kerry said. She identified both as "hard-right" Republicans. She argued that it is "very easy to hack into the mother machines."

Heinz Kerry did not offer any specific evidence that votes on the machines were altered.

"We in the United States are not a banana republic," added Heinz Kerry at a fundraiser in Seattle.

"I fear for '06," she said.

My view? If the republican's weren't so damn shady about the whole thing she'd have absolutely no ground to stand on. Amazing they refuse to let third parties review all the tallies and the software for those machines. That on top of the quotes the douchebag at diebold made just give the party plenty of fuel... but what's the point of even bringing it up unless you have plans to demand an investigation? Didn't she drop Kerry from her name again after the elections and stuff? I know she tacked Kerry on her name for the election, but I heard she dropped it afterwards, unlike when Hillary Rodham put Clinton at the end of her name before he ran and she kept it afterwards.

If it is true it's not even a matter of what party they sided with, it's the fact it's allowed to go on at all. Partisanship aside... our votes are our only right in this country... and if we don't have that we have absolutely nothing. Sure it's great when it's swaying your way, but ANYONE should be able to see the kind of issues absolute power in the government brings...

no... but there were clearly fuckups with the machines in many states. People weren't getting "20$". And why would you be so upset if someone wanted to double CHECK anyways? If the system is legit there shouldn't be a problem with a third party double checking it. Given our last two elections (IE: as close as they were) and the blatant fuckups diebold has had in the past with their voting machines I'd say a double check would be a damn good thing.

The picture isn't the problem...

It's the "I am a Republican... therefore your opinion means nothing" attitude that is swaying the discussion. We saw it all through the election year on this board, and it continues now.

I have to agree with SFC on this one...
There is a chance of there being an issue with the voting machines.
Get it looked into and resolved before the NEXT election.
What is done now is done. All we can do is hope that Bush doesn't take us into WW3 just to spite the rest of the World.

When there is as much at stake as there is with those voting machines, just taking the company's word that built them that "they are ok" is not enough.
