Know anything about VWs besides how shitty they are? I am having a problem with my daily driver and I dont know what it is. Weird engine sound while the motor is under a load. Was wondering if anyone could help troubleshoot. It is a 99 Passat V6 btw
Does anybody...

Yeah I am quite familiar with VWs. When you mean weird engine noise under load, I am not quite sure that is enough information. If it is a high pitched noise, then it is possible that the gear case needs oil (75w-90 synth) if it is a 5 spd. If it is a rattling noise then it could be the heat shield on the manifold if it is a mk3. Give me more info, also you could try posting it on this forum: www.sandlimports.com they are located in Loretto and are VERY knowledgable on VWs.
Too bad it is a passat, if it were a Jetta or Golf VR6, then your outlook would be anything but "shitty".Originally posted by NickThe choice is easy.

The car has 74,000 miles on it. It kinda sounds like an exhaust leak I suppose. Not anything like a mustang exhaust though, I am very familiar with that sound. The sound increases in pitch as the rpms go up. It is almost a popping and whirring sound put together. It is coming from around the back of the engine, either where the TB is or the exhaust manifold is. It isnt just a sucking noise like it would be with a tb. I am not too sure where the manifolds come together to the cat back so that maybe it.
